  1. Take it. I am waiting for the rapture and the mark is a tattoo anyway.

    20.8%
  2. Take it. It won't matter if I do. I am saved and nothing I do can change that.

    4.2%
  3. Wait and see what everyone else in my church is doing.

    75.0%
  4. Don't take it. This sounds dangerously too much like the stuff in the Bible about the antichrist.

I don't believe that everyone in the church would be in touch enough with the Holy Spirit to be able to make a righteous choice. If the family farm were about to be lost or a huge amount of wealth or if you didn't even have that much to lose, you just couldn't buy food the alternatives seem too hard for many in our comfortable Christianity.

I think that there are enough red flags in the "hypothetical" ;) situation to not take it no matter what.

I am not sure I understand not taking it for political reasons. What if the stakes were higher. What if you could not do anything economically, pay bills etc. unless you took this chip? If this scenario developed wouldn't you be concerned that maybe this was the antichrist?

</font>[/QUOTE]Which church you refering too, your local church, your local association of baptist churches, your state association, even the denomination itself? Are they all not living in the Holy Spirit? Isn't there a leader who can make wise decisions about what to do?

I think we should prepare for the end. There isn't nothing wrong to stockpile a few things if we havent lost our minds yet. Look how stupid the church was with Y2K, nothing happen, prophets spoke not in Christ declaring the end, but some folks prepared just in case.

    MA,

I don't mean that there isn't going to be a group (a remnant) in the church who will be able to recognize this as the antichrist if it were to turn out that way. I do believe that the majority of the church will blindly accept this chip because they are looking for something else. As far as the church leaders, I do believe that many will blindly follow this man too. I also believe that there are many sheep in our flocks with sharp wolfie teeth  that will encourage us strongly to take this chip.

The poll shows that a majority of people here would not take it, but we are 5000+ users out of who knows how many Baptist. And only about 30 people have participated in this survey.

As for stockpiling, where would you go? If you didn't take this mark you wouldn't be able to pay taxes, pay for water or electricity. You couldn't even pay your tithe. Everyone who doesn't cooperate and take this chip would essentially be homeless.

No one said it was reality. But what makes this hypothesis any more bogus than that of Jerry Jenkins?

No one makes you bother, yet you bothered to criticize both poll and hypothesis.

I thought I was speaking hypothetically.

Hypothetical - 1. of or based on serving as a hypothesis. 2. supposed but not necessarily real or true. The Oxford Desk Dictionary and Thesaurus

Would you feel better if the machines didn't implant anything or mark anything but took your fingerprint or noted the markings of the iris of your eye?

I voted no. Jesus is in charge of my life and my destiny and I am quite happy with that.

I would be hesitant to participate in any system where one man was leading the whole world.

Be specific, which church do you mean? I would have more faith in my local church and regional associations than the whole universal church at large.

If the Rapture theory is correct, great we go home early, if we're Raptured in the middle, somewhat great, we'll have work to do though, if we're Raptured at the end, we'll we made it if we gotten this far.

Concerning stockpiling, I appreciate ministres that has food shelves for the poor. God will provide food for us, lots of promises in His word. He might even reinstate manna if He has too, who knows?

I mean that yes in your and in my local church and association that many will blindly follow after such a man and gladly receive this chip to participate in his system regardless of what many godly leaders say. Many leaders will in your association and mine will say just this opposite of our godly leaders.

Here is Paul's warning to the early church in Acts. The warning is the same to us today!

Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood. 29 I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. 30 Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. 31 So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears. Acts 20:28-31 NIV

As for the majority rule being the right decision. If each democratic decisions made in our Baptist Churches were made by a majority of people who consulted with the Holy Spirit, then the prospects of following the church would be good. However looking at the Christian witness of most of our members leads me to believe that the majority is not consulting with the Holy Spirit. :(

I personally don't believe the rapture is correct, but no one would love for me to be wrong more than myself. I am watching and living like the rapture is not true, but if it is I am going to be joyously wrong. [IMG]

    Amen! [IMG]
That is the kind of faith that we would need to survive a "hypothetical" ;) situation like this.

    Tim,
I think you might misunderstand me about the church part.
When i voted for to see what the churches would do, I assuming my leaders to be godly, to understand the times, to give counsel about current events, to make sure who this dominant world learder is,(because many dominant world leaders come and go, King Nebby, ALexander the great, Ceasers, Popes, Stalin, Hitler, Democratic Presidents), I expect my leaders to discern, would this dominant leader last or just be a passing in the wind? I am not implying we would follow the turkey, but the local church leaders would protect the sheep and find ways to feed the sheep in perilous times.
I think LaHayes view of the end-times is warped and I dont desire to live in their world-view.

    MA,

Please forgive me for sounding churchie or like I am hyperspiritual. But we can’t assume our leaders will do the right thing.

We need to be like the Bereans.

Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. Acts 17:11 NIV

Some of our leaders and most of our associations take a “hands off” approach to end times discussions as they see them as controversial. We need our Pastors, leaders, and associations to take a stand on this end times debate so we can see if their stance squares with the Word.

    I agree! [IMG]

Unfortunately, I have to be so persistent about this issue because most associations don't talk about it and many pastors go with LaHaye's popular, albeit warped end times view. If they are preaching LaHaye’s pretrib rapture end times view, they are not looking for the antichrist because they believe they are not going to be here.

    Tim,
Some leaders are true shepherds and some are just hirelings. But, will we be selfish or generous in the end times? How would we react if God so happens not to rapture us in the pre-trib?
Would the shepherd leaders gather us up and council us sheep and sheepdogs to do the right thing? Or would they abandon us? I think more than ever, Christians including baptists needs to work together to make it through those hard times. Today, of course, we are so exclusive in our fellowship (in reference in communication between other christian denominations and churches in our local area) that we isolate ourselves in walking out our faith. In the 7 year tribulation, wars and plagues and anarchy, who cares if someone speaks in tongues or not, it doesnt matter because were being persecuted for our faith and being martyrs etc.

I agree, will we help each other and love each other like Jesus told us to do or will we be concerned about saving our own necks? Some neck saving will be going on, (Matt 24:10-13) but I believe that if this difficult time should come to be that many Saints are going to come through these fires of tribulation shining like GOLD. [IMG] And in that group of individuals there will be no petty differences, just love for God, and love for our brothers and sisters aplenty.

    Tim

Sorry to "Hit and Run" but I would like to pose another "hypothesis".
What if a hardsheller took the mark? Would he lose his salvation?
