Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. (Exodus 20:4-6)

SUVs at altar, Detroit church prays for a bailout

    Sun Dec 7, 2008 6:41pm EST

DETROIT, Dec 7 (Reuters) - With sport-utility vehicles at the altar and auto workers in the pews, one of Detroit's largest churches on Sunday offered up prayers for Congress to bail out the struggling auto industry.

    Uh huh.

Praying for money. I wonder if any of these idol worshipers thought to pray for God's will and the courage to accept it, whatever it turns out to be.?

I recall a church going to a local gas station and laying hands on the gas pumps, praying gas would go down. It's $1.52 now. :D

Maybe I'll be able to buy a new SUV for $6,000 now

I don't think they have a problem unless they expected the SUV's to be the ones providing the answers.

If a church has new deacons stand at the altar, or missionaries it is about to send, does their being up there with special prayers voiced mean they are being worshipped?

    Missionaries prefer the $100 denomination.

    This made me LOL!!!

On topic, while I personally find the act odd, I can see where it is dear to the hearts of many. My family in the States all work (or worked) for the big 3. If the big 3 go under, a whole lot of people go under. It's definitely prayer worthy!

Aside from the spiritual aspect, I honestly feel that it was a media style tactic and that's the main reason I don't like it. It feels icky. News media doesn't belong in the church, imo.
