Messianic Jew sounds like a good idea. We had a fellow come and sing at church one Sunday and he gave his testimony, it was very compelling. I don't know much about the doctrine. Does anyone have a link that has the doctrineal statement? Otherwise I think a home church would be better than attending a larger church if I couldn't support their basic doctrines.

Since I hold credentials in the Christian church/churches of Christ in addition to Baptist credentials, I would obviously choose the CC/CoC. Now, if I weren't Christian, I would choose either Reform Judaism or the Bahai faith.

I did pick another denomination. I went from Catholic to IFB. Why?
Because I always felt something was missing in my faith ever since I was a young child. Took me 30 years to figure out what that was but I got here!!

If I had to move where there were no IFB churches I wouldn't move to that particular area. That is where I was at not so long ago. I absolutly love my church and it's people. I hate where I live and want to get out so bad I could taste it. The thought of leaving my church devestates me, our church is what is keeping us living where we hate.

But I researched the area I was thinking about moving. First looking for churches, contacting them and asking questions that I feel is important to me. Then looking for good schools and trying to find a match. I did come up with a few but we are staying put for a while now...

Well, we've had this dilemma in the past and we attended the Mennonite church. I will be always grateful to them for taking us in....

If there was an Evangelical Free Church, though, that would be my first choice. I might consider Christian and Missionary Alliance, too.

I grew up in the Salvation Army, Studied for ministry in the Pentecostal Church and now Pastor a Seventh Day Baptist Church. So I would have to answer as though if all these three options were no there.

So there is two denominations that look pretty good to me although others might think differently.

    Calvary Chapel looks good.

Christian Missionary Alliance looks good also.

I understand that others are saying form home fellowships begin another Baptist church etc. Yet I think the idea of the question is to name denominations that look good to you as a second choice rather than other ideas.

I would look for a bible-believing, gospel preaching church. As a former Presbyterian, I would consider joining a church affiliated with the conservative Presbyterian Church In America (PCA) or another conservative Presbyterian denomination.

Since I've had to move numerous times both overseas and in the states. My first priority was finding a church. I felt like a fish out of water when I didn't have a church home. When I moved up to Michigan three years ago. I couldn't find a good IBC. I was a member of a SBC before I moved and before that move was in IBC member. So, after much prayer and visiting several churches and looking into the Doctrine of those churches I joined a church without a Baptist name and with Baptist Doctrine. This is the first church I've gone to that after giving specific prayer requests monthes later I had people comming up to me asking me about those prayer requests.

I have really appreciated all the posts about your thoughts of other church groups.

The E-Free Church I was a member of for so many years seemed to be very much "Baptist" in many of their doctrines. They at least didn't believe that someone's salvation stemmed on whether someone joined the E-Free Church or not. They didn't condemn most of the other Baptist churches in the area, however, there was talk about some of the other churches in town that they deemed "doctrinally not sound". Several at the E-Free Church were not happy that I started attending the United Pentecostal Church after leaving the E-Free Church. If I had done more research on the UPC, I'm quite sure that I would never have been a regular there. They are quite narrow on their belief of what salvation is.

There is a Church of God-Holiness in town that I've attended a few times, although it is a bit bigger (size-wise) than I care for. Doctrinally, they seem to be sound.

I would be interested in visiting a Moravian or a Brethren Church if we had one within driving distance though.

 I think I just had a heart attack! ;)

Well, I'm currently attending a Friends (Quakers) meeting for worship, but there are plenty of Baptist churches in this area. The primary reason I chose it is that I prefer the Friends' manner of worship.

Out of curiosity . . . I've seen a few posts in the time I've been coming here that referred to someone's switching to a non-Baptist church, therefore they were ineligible to post here because - even though their beliefs did not change - they suddenly considered themselves non-Baptists. Personally, I believe what you "are" has little to do with the church you attend and all to do with what you believe.

I would never join another denomination! We HAD to attend American Baptist up north and really found it cold and rigid compared to SBC churches.

But then.... I believe scripture supports the SBC statement even concerning women's roles.

I'm curious too, Kelly. If someone leaves the Baptist church, they would certainly not be allowed to post in the Bapstist only forums! I have a friend who is a member here and a member of a non-denominational church. She can't post on those forums.......

I wish we had a SBC here..... E-Free, Mennonite, Anabaptist (yes there are some)... or as I have in the past, I'd start a church.

What I origianlly wanted to post on this question, and didn't becasue I didn't want o ruffle featheres, casue trouble, offend anyone, was that not only would I never be anything but baptist, but I would never be anything but SBC! But I didn't want to offend, but since you brought up the subject, and din't mind offending people, thought I might as well finish my thought on the subject.

    You didn't?

Your "Talk" talks, and your "Walk" talks, but your "Walk" talks louder than your "talk" talks.
