Illinois proposal: Raise income tax by 75%

YES! That's my point! The rich people want us to fight amongst ourselves and forget them.
75 years ago doctors, lawyers, engineers, small bank presidents . . . had live in servants. How many people you personally know with live in servants? How many in your church? I think having a live in servant would be a good bottom line for middle class.

Seventy-five years ago live in servants worked for peanuts.
Live in servants are now illegal aliens working for less than minimum wage.
Who needs a live in servant when there are companies like Molly Maid?
Illinois will get exactly what New Jersey went through.
2 or 3 governors ago, we were told they had to dramatically increase our Property Taxes to keep the state from bankruptcy. So at the time, the economy was still good & jobs were cranking out of NYC so the tax payer capitulated. It was like throwing money down the rat hole. Corrupt politicians (is there any other kind), Teachers Unions etc kept spending & spending till we are now the state with the highest property taxes in the country & still going bankrupt. OK Gov Christy will address some issues but as fat as he is (were talking huge/ Rotund) he still cant plug that rat hole.

Why are you worried bout illegals. In construction, the contractors are picking them up in the morning, paying 12 bucks an hour with all the coffee they can drink. Then they go on social services (free healthcare, food & clothing) .....I think they live a better life.

I was responding to BillWald's comment about live in servants.
My point was that live in servants were paid next to nothing 75 years ago - and that is why they were more common then - because now very few people would be willing to do the job for that kind of pay - except illegal aliens who take the job because it is all they can find and so are willing to work for next to nothing.

Sometimes legislatures will do this kind of proposal to soften the actual move they are anticipating making.
For instance this one they could come back and say "Well we worked really hard over the last several weeks and were able to hammer out a deal where we only raise taxes by 25%." In actuality that was the number they were aiming for all along.
So much of the political game is like this...go to the extreme, freak everyone out, then come back with a lighter version of the same thing and declare ourselves champions.
Every state and Washington need to replace all elected officials every election for the next 10 years, zero out their budgets and start from scratch, limit lobbyist contact, declare an end to earmarking, and have no control over their own pay/benefits. If not our country will not last (economically) through the end of century.

We do - have for years.
It's not much of an expense
And unlike your union dues - we actually get something for the money.
