Eatery chain in Midwest/Northern Plains aims to get half a million tacos into locals' bellies on Tuesday:

    Taco John • Twitter

"we need your help in setting a Taco John’s record. We’ve always had our classic tacos on the menu since 1969 and to celebrate the past 50 years and the next 50, join us in attempting to eat 500,000 tacos in just one day"

Never understood the hype over Taco John’s. Always thought it was like eating a TV dinner.

Its taco stand fare is about as gourmet as it gets in the small towns where it locates its 'restaurants'!

Keys are "no competition" and rural "desperation":

    Taco John Corporate Strategy

"The decision to target small towns...became characteristic of the Taco John's organization"

"most companies up to that period had focused on opening franchise outlets [in] urban areas. In contrast, Holmes and Woodson decided to open their stores in small towns, which were often devoid of competition....The overall strategy was ultimately a big success. Each Taco John's eatery developed a loyal customer base in its town, and also managed to attract regular patrons from outlying regions that would become desperate for a Taco John's 'fix'."

I'm taking it that the tacos are free on this day, otherwise I might suspect an advertising gimmick geared to give them a big profit day.

They were selling them at 69 cents each Tuesday (approx. half off)

An everyday meal deal is their 'Six Pack and a Pound' (that's right, a POUND of their 'tater tots):

    Taco John’s® Menu | Six-Pack And A Pound®

"What’s better than a taco? A bunch of tacos....Six Crispy Beef or Softshell Tacos. One pound of Potato Olés®. Split the Six-Pack And A Pound® or keep it all to yourself."
