Colonial Hills Baptist Church is a very well-known church. They are located in a very busy area with heavy traffic. They are near the northern border of Marion County and the wealthy suburb of Carmel, Indiana. I have been given their tracts from time to time over the years and I had one acquaintance who attended there. Police seem to think that the brakes failed on the bus but they are going to test all that out. Most of the injured were sent to Methodist Hospital, the main emergency hospital for central Indiana.

Dayton Daily News: Sisters start school year at Cedarville after losing mother in bus accident

Gretta and Emily Weindorf lost their mother in a bus accident just one month ago. Today, as they start classes at Cedarville University, they carry on with the pictures they printed to remember her and the prayers they say every day.
The sisters, who since the accident have turned 20 and 18, say they also have the comfort of knowing that this is “where mom would want us” to be.

Emily, a pre-medicine freshmen this fall, picked Cedarville with her mother’s help. Gretta decided to transfer this year from Wisconsin to be closer to their home in Carmel, Ind. and with her sister. She is studying nursing.
“Everyone here has been really kind,” Gretta Weindorf said of the private, Baptist university, which has 3,000 undergraduates.
“It’s definitely made the transition easier. You can just see Christ’s love through them,” she said.

Accident report finally released

http://www.wishtv.com/news/local/isp-release-report-on-july-bus-crash

"Indiana State Police have released their report into the crash that killed three members of the Colonial Hills Baptist Church in July. Police say speed was a factor.

Indiana State Police say the brakes were working when the bus slammed into the barrier wall at Interstate 465 and Keystone Avenue.

The driver, Dennis Maurer, had said that the brakes failed coming off of the outer belt. State Police say Maurer did appear to brake and steer before the bus hit the wall, but he couldn't avoid contact.

State Police say the bus was going too fast when it tried to turn onto Keystone from I-465.

The bus was full of students and chaperones coming home from a week-long church camp."

Prosecutor Will Not File Criminal Charges

WRTV Indianapolis

The prosecutor’s office said the traffic light at the I-465 ramp was red when the bus entered the intersection, and Maurer will be issued a traffic ticket for the infraction.

Investigators said crash reconstruction showed the bus was traveling at roughly 40 to 45 miles per hour and was in range of the posted speed limit, but “speed as estimated is considered the primary cause of this crash due to the driver’s inability to safely negotiate the turn given the type of vehicle.”
