You know what it is but you may have never heard it called by name. If you’ve ever seen the helpless look in the eyes of an addict, as they look at their child and wished, with everything in them, that they had the strength to break the cycle… that thing that overpowers them.... it’s got a name; INIQUITY.

Iniquity is to sin what no foundation is to a building that topples. Pride was the original iniquity, and it’s one of the most repugnant to God, but, iniquity is also that thing that troubles you when you are trying to eat healthy. Sin is telling the lie but iniquity is the thig in your heart that lead you tell it.

In the book of Malachi, God says that he will smear dung in the priests faces…. They no longer turned people from iniquity (2:6) . Iniquity is the disease; sin is the symptom and TRUTH is the cure. When Jesus proclaimed to Thomas that he was "the truth", he meant that literally. When David owned up to his sin, he acknowledged that iniquity was at the core and truth in his hidden and secret parts was what was lacking.

Turn on the news and you can see it building; Iniquity first appeared in the heart of an angle, on the Holy Mountain of God. It was brought to the garden and the “mystery of iniquity” (2 Thessalonians 2:5-10) has been at work on this planet ever since. We are nearing the time where someone will be revealed “…Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.”

It’s a bleak picture but take courage! As sure as “…he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”

“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
