I wasa browsing a Christian bookstore the other day . I came across a book : Interpreting The New Testament Text . One of the contributing authors is I. Howard Marshall , a well-known New Testament scholar . His chapter dealt with the introduction of Mark . The following is from a footnote on page 315 .

The reason for choosing the NIV and the NRSV for primary use in study is that they are both fairly literal in their rendering of the Greek text , avoiding the interpretation found in some translations and the freedom to recast the text found in others . I once had to write a commentary based on one of these other versions of a New Testament book , and I found that time and time again I was writing : " The translation says this , but the Greek really means that ." For study purposes it is better to have the next best thing to the Greel text ...

What are the "other versions" to which he refers?

Jerome , it was just a footnote . he did not specify what the "other versions" were .

I can't belive my typos : "wasa" and "greel text" .

It was interesting that such a New Testament scholar as Marshall would commend the NIV ( along with the NRSV ) . I am used to many lesser students of the Word dismissing the NIV for its inaccuracy .
