Sometime around May 1, 2020, about 56,000 patients were hospitalized for Covid 19. At that time about 2000 people per day were dying of causes attributed to Covid 19.

Now (in August 2020) about 40,000 patients were hospitalized for Covid 19, but less than 760 are dying per day of causes attributed to Covid 19.

So while our case load has decreased by about 30%, even with increased testing, yet our death rate from Covid has decreased about 60%.

At least we can say the Covid Pandemic handling has things going in the right direction.

IT is because the virus is mutating to a weaker form. And every viral infection has passed through the immune systems of many thousands of people, which have forced changes on its genetic makeup.

I see that the left wing media is beating the drums that Covid is heading such that it will be as bad as earlier this year. Fiction.
The number of cases is at a record high, at least partly because of record testing. But while the hospitalizations are about 5% above a short time ago, they remain about 20% below their peak. Deaths are averaging less than 1000 per day, while in the past they were averaging more than 2000 a day.

This isn’t directed at you Scott, but it’s interesting how some who characterize evolution as a myth or say that all evolutionary mutations are bad are so quick to say the virus has mutated into a beneficially weaker form.

My co-worker’s daughter is a downtown Philly ER nurse practitioner.
She reports the hospital emergency room where she works has been swamped with flu cases recently.

One of the reasons for the “lock-down” was to reduce the initial burden on the healthcare system.
    Since then
    • medical staff has been trained,
    • procedures have been established,
    • treatments have been developed,
    • numerous research studies have been performed,
    • in theses studies medications have been proven
    • while others (like the highly promoted hydroxychloroquine) have been set aside.
We’ve simply gotten better at treating the virus.

This virus is less virulent (deadly) than it was, but perhaps more infectious than it was, the many new cases show that. IMO, you dont have the huge numbers of dead people compared to numbers infected it originally had at the beginning of the year.

There are quite a few mutated variants infecting people now.
Flu also goes through mutations and some mutations are deadlier than others.
    Colds also readily mutate.
