I have heard that there is some disagreed between Dr. Eitel at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and Dr. Rankin of the International Mission Board over current IMB practices. Can anyone validate this as true? What are the issues and who is right?

You can do a google search with the combination of eitel, rankin, patterson, IMB....and read about what was written, and Rankin and the IMB's response.

The deal is that Eitel wrote a paper questioning some of the stuff at missionary training in Richmond and other practices overseas and sent it to all the trustees of the IMB. Then, Rankin replied with a letter that accused Eitel of making unfounded accusations. It appears that it is pretty heated and Rankin is supposed to meet with Eitel and Paige Patterson over the issue. Even though Patterson has gone to Southwestern, he apparently wrote a letter supporting Eitel's paper.

It seems that Eitel accuses Rankin of (1) downplaying the need for a seminary education; (2) placing women in positions of improper leadership; and (3) cooperating with other “Great Commissions Christians” without a doctrinal divide. It seems that Rankin simply denies the validity of any of the complaints. Is there any validity to the complaints listed above that Eitel made? It seems one or the other cannot be telling the whole story.
