They now have a functioning democracy and a growing economy. Good thing they didn't listen to Reid and Pelosi ("The war is lost!")

Congratulations?????? How can a democracy function in the midst of such culture??

Thousands of contestants, a democracy??

A democracy is a horrible institution.... It is simply majority rule.... When the majority is evil, evil prevails...... Can't think of a worse place for a democracy.....

This is folly on a grand scale....IMHO..... rant done.

Praise God for the success of this historic election! What a proud day for the Iraqi people!!!!! :flower:

This is a huge success for America and President Bush as well!!!!!!!

I'm interested in seeing the voter turnout compared to the US.

We cannot give credit to Bush on this one. It happened under the Obama administration. He gets all the credit.

No they don't but I agree this was a big step in the right direction. It will still be at least a year before the troops come home so don't claim this is total victory or an absolute success story. It is what it is, a step in the right direction and Bush can get the credit.

However, Bush started the war unnecessarily so this is a little like giving the guy who started the fire an award for putting it out.

Well, the Iraqis are electing their own leaders. That is representative government and the only Arab country where it exists. And since the Democratic Congress was in favor of the war (before they were against it), maybe they can take some credit too. ;)

Democratic government doesn't always turn out well. But as Churchill said,

"Democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried."

Congress agreed on the WMD lie.

That would make Al Gore, & Bill Clinton, & Colin Powell, & Wesley Clarke, & Hans Blix all liars.

Why should Iraq elections be more important than American elections? Only thing changes is the tax collector.
