Is a cross a symbol of death or a religion?

I consider it a symbol of eternal life.

But the LEGAL questions is: does the average person see it as a religious (Christian) symbol, or as a memorial to the death of an individual?

Salty I think both although Christianity is very miss-understood as being just another meaningless religion. In Texas they are just about every place where anyone has been killed in an auto accident.

In the context of the story, I believe the "average" person sees it as a memorial.

I believe that only those that are anti anything Christian would see them otherwise.

It has been a Christian symbol for 2000 years. Only Christians use it - another reason to reject the LDS as "Christian."

I guess we should expect to see a movement to rip up all the crosses from the military cemetaries soon. This decision by the court is a bad one, Justice Thomas was well said in his response.

What else are we going to use? Is there some other symbol that is divested of religious influence...including the religion of secular-humanism?

Maybe we can just start putting a skull and crossbones up in its place.
