I never said that God is handcuffed to our response to His command. That would be giving mankind way too much credit. [IMG]

But what we do know of God we find in His word, agreed? And in His word we are told that, to be saved, one must believe on the Son. Jesus said he is "the way, the truth and the life" and no man comes to the Father but by Him.

Once Jesus finished His work on the cross, I don't see any biblical examples of people being saved by faith in an unknown god, or any other way outside faith in Jesus. Am I just missing it? Are the examples really there and I haven't seen them? If so, please tell me where to find them in the Bible. I am always open to learning from Gods word. [IMG]

PTW... What I mean by the Faith Of Christ... Is that the embodiment of Faith is Christ... Christ is Faith... Without Jesus Christ there is no Faith... Brother Glen [IMG]

May I ask 'Preach the Word' a question:

In light of this topic, is faith the cause or effect of eternal salvation?

    God Bless

What does that have to do with the original post?

This is probably the connection to your original post:
A person could have faith in Christ BECAUSE he has eternal salvation, or a person could have faith in Christ IN ORDER TO OBTAIN eternal salvation? I think that is Jeptha's question.

I think he wants to turn this into a faith to be saved vs. faith because you are saved thread. I am a calvinist. That has nothing to do with the original topic. Many non-calvinists understand that without faith in Christ, a person is going to hell.

Jesus Christ is the only Salvation that is going to get any foot into the door of Heaven.

You can call it grace, faith, trust, fruits, or any other name you want. You can call it before or after. But the Fact is, under no other name are you going to get in. It has to be Jesus.

Your belittling of solid evangelical scholars speaks far more about you than it does the scholars.

Evidently you are unaware of the objective/subjective debate over the use of the word pistis in the NT, so it would be fruitless to discuss it with you.

Do you believe Jesus Christ was 100% human? This question in itself (if truly thought through) should be enough to answer the question on whether Christ exercised faith.

I will not waste the energy to respond fully to this post. I have already stated I am an exclusivist. I was simply reminding folks that not inclusivism can be labeled "all roads lead to heaven" theology.

I was also making the point that God is not limited to our obedience to the Great Commission. In other words, people will not die and go to Hell b/c someone refused to go and tell them. God is not restricted to the response of finite humans.

SBC, I am fully aware of the debate. Views are not of equal weight because they are debated. You know, you can arive at truth and stand for it.

I have a question I don't see addressed here at all but which I think is extremely relevant:

"name" in the Bible means character as often as not. The NAME Y'shua (Jesus) means "the LORD saves".

Perhaps what the Bible is saying by 'no other name' has nothing to do with the letters YSHUA or JESUS or however it is spelled in whichever language -- but with the character of God Himself, whom Jesus is.

This would definitely eliminate all who put their hope/faith in other gods or in themselves, but it would indicate salvation for those from all places and times who put their hope/faith in the one Creator God and His Promise that He Himself would be the Savior.

    Just some thoughts...

I fully agree with you, Helen. There are actually
people out there who claim that if you do not call
upon a particular name, pronouunced in a particular
way, you will be lost. Ridiculous.

I do not call our Lord either "Jesus" or "Christ,"but
I am no less saved by the precious blood of our
crucified and risen Lord. It is the Person who
saves us, not the name nor our pronunciation of
    His name.

Abiyah, it is both. It is not ridiculous either.

Paul warns of those who preach a different Jesus. John warns about those who do not hold to the correct doctrines of Jesus.

So yes, the "name" of Christ includes his person. English speaking people must call upon the Jesus Christ of Scripture. What else would you call him?

Abiyah and Helen how are you ladies doing? :D ... So how are we suppose to call on Jesus Christ... Audibly... Spiritually... Or from the heart?... Or some other way?... And who really needs to know anyway... But Jesus!... And unless you are a fruit inspector how would you know who called on him?... And even if you are... Are you positive they don't belong to him?... Will he not save ALL his sheep like he promised?... Or will he lose one?... Brother Glen [IMG]

To believe in Christ is to believe both who he is (Lord) as well as what he did (Savior). Without both, one cannot believe in him savingly.

This raises some interesting questions, Larry:

    1. Is one then saved because of what one believes?

    2. If one believes only one part and is not sure about the other, is he therefore condemned to hell?

    3. Does one need to know the Savior was Jesus of Nazareth?

That's right ... I forgot I was talking to the one person who has a monopoly on all truth. [IMG]

I just hope you have spent ample time studying this subject matter before you simply label it ridiculous. Can you articulate your basic grammatical problems with translating pistis subjectively when linked to Christ?

    Joh 10:7-9

:7 Then Jesus said to them again, Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.
:8 All who came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them.
:9 I am the door. If anyone enters in by Me, he shall be saved and shall go in and out and find pasture.

    That is the only way.
