Do churches in the U.S preach that smoking is a Sin?

In Australia in the churches that I have been in, it is accepted that the person is saved by Grace in spite of being a smoker, yet the churches do encourage people to give it up, in particular the SDA who have a specific give up smoking course that is based around the Bible.

Some do. But many in Kentucky don't.

If it is habit-forming and hurts your body physically, it would be considered a sin. A good cigar on the other hand ...

I voted yes it is sin. It is a terrible addiction. One that I have personally struggled with for years. I gave up booze. I quit drugs, these would include but not limited to methamphetamine, crack cocaine, marijuana, pills, psycodelics, and "all arounders". But NOTHING, I mean NOTHING is so hard to quit than tobacco.
That being said; I would ask. If tobacco use is sin because of its harful effects on a person and those around him, then WHY is wine drinking NOT for so many Baptists? Alcohol begins detroying cells the instant it hits your system, yet so MANY howl that it is not sin.
"Things that make you go Hmmm?"
Oh well. What can ya' say?

I agree with you Jim. My (deceased) ex-husband was a four pack a day (lighting a new one off the old one) smoker until 1972 when he had a heart attack. From that day he never smoked another cigaret. I had to sew his shirt pockets back on several times.
The thing that he couldn't let go of was the alcohol. It destroyed his family and finally took his life. He said he drank because it made him feel like a man. He drank after the heart attack, after the (5)by-pass surgery, after the light stroke and after finding out he was a diabetic with a blood sugar count so high the doctor was amazed that he was still standing.
He did not simply consume the alcohol, he was consumed by it. The scars are still deep in this family.

I am a former cigarette smoker of 16 years, many of those years were for a-pack-a-day, that is a sin. Cigarette smoking is an addiction, I should know. It leaves a dirty taste in your mouth, a bad smell on your clothes and surroundings. Cigarette smoking causes cancer and second hand smoke is worst, it kills those around you, I think that is a sin if nothing else is, think of the innocent babies!!. Foremost your body was bought at a price, Jesus' Blood, and it is not your own. Your body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit and can you imagine what it must be like for Him who indwells you?!. You cannot smoke and say I will never become addicted, ask any alcoholic, drug addict and my self. This month I have quit for 14 years and can breath better for it, in more ways than one. I also wish to say that quitting was one of the hardest things I ever had to do, only threw Christ did I finally quit!. There were alot of tears, alot of prayers and a lot of sorrow. But thru Christ who strengthens me after numerous false starts, I was able to quit. Praise the Lord.
