Is there something inherently evil in a Pax Americana?

If America goes on the road to being Global cop and ammending the Constitution we are on the road to American Empire. Rome started out as a Republic but thanks to Juluis Caesar they slowly moved from Republic to Empire. Pat Buchanan has warned about this in the past and is starting to look like one of the smartest men in America. Personaly I don't think the USA has the stomach for Pax Americana. The reason more Americans seem not focused on the 2 wars we are in today is because of the volunteer Army. Let the Draft ever come back and then it is your 18 or 19 year old son or daughter going to fight, then every thing changes.

I am not suggesting America take over the world. However, where our interests lie (which are global), I am all force the use of extreme military force if necessary.

We have the weapons and the superior military. We should protect our interest at all costs. America does not enslave people.

Btw, PJ, Peroutka couldn't change a thing about abortion either.

    Daisy,

Are you referring to Uday and Qusay?

Daisy, that is the nature of the world we live in. We also kill those people who kill others. Well, at least most states do.

Actually, he has some ideas that would be effective, check his website.

Also, the President has the "bully pulpit". Bush used it to push socialized medicine over the wishes of most of his party. He could use if for abortion if he cared as much about unborn babies as he does about turning the US into a socialist state.

    KenH,

I'm not sure it is a wise policy, at least to the extent imagined by its proponents, but how is it unconstitutional?

PJ, not to hijack my own thread here, but a socialist does not slash hundreds of millions in taxes.

I have said many times that I disagree with alot of what Bush has done. However, I agree with what he has done with abortion, the war, taxes, and marriage.

Socialists are not about taxes. They are about spending. Bush spends freely for all sorts of socialist schemes.

He's just using our credit card. Some other president will have to deal with paying for it.

That's the socialist way. Bush is no different than any other one.

Suppose your next electric bill arrived with a $20 rebate check and a notification that the electric company was building a $100 billion dollar resort for its executives, and the costs would be passed on to you. Would you say "man, these guys are great, they sent me $20"? Bush has spent our nations financial future into oblivion, faster and bigger than the wildest liberal Democrat.

I don't agree with his entire lack of any action to prevent the 4000 abortions that will occur today. I have not seen a single example of a single judicial appointee in almost four years thah as saved a single innocent life from abortion. He doens't even mention it in his weekly addresses, and his State OTU speech was silent on the issue. On his official website, there is a section on his agenda that has TONS of information on all sorts of things (mostly liberal Democrat type of stuff), but NOTHING on abortion. He has no intnetion of doing ANYTHING more than barely necessary to hold on to votes (which apparently is precious little).

As to the war, we'll just have to disagree. I think he has gotten us into a bloody quagmire that will produce far more terrorists than there are today.

As to taxes, I addressed that above.

As to marriage, he suggests fooling with the constitution, while placing homosexual activists in high government positions and courting (and getting) the support of the "Log Cabin Republicans" (a horrible insult to log cabins).
