OH - this has nothing to do with illegal immigrants!!!
The Cortland, NY school district has decided to close two of its elementary schools. This will leave
the city with only three elementary schools.
The school board has decided to assign schools as follows:
K-2 --- School # 1
3-4 --- School # 2
5-6 --- School # 3
Parents are upset about this - they want all schools to be K-6 and based on geographic areal
They contend that in addition - the 5th and 6th graders are mentors to the younger students.
For what it is worth - the city has a area of 500 square miles and a population of 50,000
(as a comparison - St Louis, MO is 920 square miles /300,000 population.
Parents are trying to get a petition to insist the school board change back to a geo division.
