In a two-page Oct. 29 contract, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) local 1049 demanded union dues, pay hikes and benefit contributions from Florida electric utilities before its workers would be permitted to help reconnect power to Long Island communities. The demand came as Hurricane Sandy was bearing down on the Northeastern United States, stranding tens of millions without electricity.

Dispicable, Sickening, Disgusting....

I'll limit my thoughts to just those three words.

But in New York, no government official has stepped in to ensure that utility crews from other states won’t have to show their union membership cards before going to work — even though their own employers are paying for them to repair power lines in the Empire State.

How many people are STILL sitting in their homes this morning with no heat?
How many gas stations are STILL closed because the power is out?
How many are STILL suffering other consequences of being without power?

Because union GREED and CONTROL have left them in the dark?

Thank God, much of the south has been able to resist most of the detrimental influences of organized labor. Not all, as there are some union shops, but not to the extent they exist up north.

I know that some will disagree with me. That's their right, a right that I won't deny.

That said, IMO, this is a prime example of the role that unions have played in the downfall of this country. To refuse to accept aid to victums of this storm because that aid doesn't carry a union card - dispicable - sickening - disgusting.

The people in that region wanted a liberal, union-friendly government. I don't feel a bit sorry for them. Volunteers should stay home. Let the people reap the rewards of their foolishness.

And Union leadership express wonderment over why they are not getting the support they once had.
Just read the second and third pages of the article, the Long Island local is the one out of step with the rest of the area. If the press gets troo bad expect National to gently stomp on them. Especially as some of the Florida workers belong to the same union.
