ISRAEL’S armed forces have been ordered by Ariel Sharon, the prime minister, to be ready by the end of March for possible strikes on secret uranium enrichment sites in Iran, military sources have revealed...

....Iran’s stand-off with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) over nuclear inspections and aggressive rhetoric from Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Iranian president, who said last week that Israel should be moved to Europe, are causing mounting concern.

The crisis is set to come to a head in early March, when Mohamed El-Baradei, the head of the IAEA, will present his next report on Iran. El-Baradei, who received the Nobel peace prize yesterday, warned that the world was “losing patience” with Iran....

I don't see any way for Israel to attack Iran preventively as long as there is a massive number of U.S troops next door in Iraq.

Also, it would be rather dumb of the Israeli government to telegraph ahead of time the date it was going to take action or even was going to take action. That is what made the attack on Iraq's nuclear reactor effective - it was a surprise preventive attack.

Plus I imagine that the Iranians are keeping their air defenses at a high state of readiness on a constant basis.

    Ken,

Are you thinking our troops would actually intervene against Israel and stop the attack? I am thinking not.

No. The fear is that it would put our troops in even more danger by widening the conflict to include Iran. We could lose several thousands more of our troops if that happens.

Plus I would think after all of the problems we had with accurate intel before removing Saddam Hussein and after all of the problems we had after failing to plan for what would happen after we removed Saddam Hussein that we should move very, very cautiously about supporting an action against Iran.

Glad to see there may be some reason applied to this situation. Let's pray that the talks in Vienna go well. [IMG]

Sounds like saber rattling. They're hacked off at Iran (and rightly so) so they're floating some stuff out there to remind them they don't back down from anyone.

If Israel wanted to take out something in Iran we would have heard about it AFTER it happened. If anyone can keep a secret it's the Israelis.
