Good luck on getting an answer to that that isn't totally distorted.

How about this "devil" song. Doesn't it make you want to take drugs, commit adultery, and kill someone?

    Here Comes the Sun

Here comes the sun, here comes the sun,
and I say it's all right

Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
and I say it's all right

Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
and I say it's all right

Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...

Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been clear
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun,
and I say it's all right
    It's all right

Oooohh... that song is evil trough and through. This is about George Harrison using his satanic powers predicting Global Warming. I can see why folks would want to get their sinnin in before the end comes.

The youth of America are in your debt.
Seriously though, James when you first heard the song did you think that was what it was about. I've heard it over and over and was never concerned myself about what the song was really about and for the most part I would bet that most of the teens of that era were not that curious to find out. Those who were curious were looking for tabboo things to fill their lives with anyway.
See above post. MP is right!

The youth of America have moved far beyond 'Drive My Car.' The Beatles merely opened the door, and the satanic entertainment industry is in their debt.

I don’t believe it because there is no evidence to support that assertion. I have heard that claim since 1984, but I only recently had an opportunity to check it out. Like the majority of the other “quotes” and allegations used by the anti-popular music evangelists, it was completely false.

Yep. Because it demonstrates that the persons who promote these quotes haven’t checked them for accuracy. The book is readily available to those who want to find it, but I never went through the trouble of looking up that reference since I had already spent an enormous amount of time looking up other quotes from publications on microfilm back in 1985. (When I was in college, I had access to a large research library that had several decades of music periodicals (dating from the early 1960s) on microfilm. Verifying quotes in the anti-rock books by Bob Larson, the Peters Brothers, and others was fairly easy since I was able to investigate the primary sources for myself.

The shocking truth is that the vast majority (somewhere in the neighborhood of 70-80%) of the quotes I investigated were taken out-of-context to imply a meaning that did not reflect the subject’s true opinion, or were completely fabricated.

At that time I learned a hard lesson that many Christian leaders are not terribly concerned about honesty or fairness when dealing with issues they didn’t like.

Really? Have you verified the quotes from primary sources to see if they were taken in context and reflected the intended meaning of the speaker(s)? Because a lot of these “quotes” have been around for more than two decades (some of them nearly 40 years). For instance, the quote regarding “A Spaniard in the Works” has been around since I first saw it in 1983 in a Bob Larson book. It’s part of the same old plagiarized rehash of anti-rock propaganda that I investigated over 20 years ago.

If you remember, John Lennon didn’t exactly think it was a good idea that The Beatles were “more popular than Jesus” among British teens. He was very uncomfortable with his fame and the way people seemed to hang on his every word. Which brings us to the next item:

    Thanks for the heads-up!

I checked it out and was not surprised by the way Lennon was misrepresented. Here’s the quote in context:

The chapter continues to tell the story of how Lennon found that he did not like fame very much and how unhappy he became.

Of course, when the anti-Beatle crusaders get hold of the statement, “I sold my soul to the devil,” they immediately jump on the occult bandwagon and claim that John Lennon was a satanist instead of taking into account that our entire Western culture has a traditional mythos* about a “devil’s bargain” or “making a deal with the devil,” where you get fame and fortune and discover that you’ve been cheated – you’ve lost more than you’ve gained.

In the context of Lennon’s quote, it is abundantly clear to anyone who is not trying to twist his words that Lennon is referring to exactly that situation.

Therefore, the assertion is a lie, even though those seven words were spoken by Lennon.

So out of the two quotes you listed that I’ve checked out, they are 100% false. What do you think the odds are that the others are true? Why do you think that someone who would lie twice about easily-verifiable things about John Lennon would have qualms about saying other false things?

Sure there is. People who are followers of Jesus (that is, those who believe Jesus enough to put their faith into action) are bound by the nature, teaching and example of Christ to tell the truth. If Jesus is “the way, the truth, and the life,” Christians must be scrupulously honest about all things… even if it has to do with those we believe to be our enemies. The gospel of Christ is NEVER advanced by lies or distortion. And those who are in the church must demand truth from each other and our leaders.

Hardly. If the people who fabricated and distributed those quotes came under “the influence” of the Holy Spirit, they would immediately repent and work to correct their error. Do you have the nerve to take a stand for Jesus, repent of [I assume] innocently spreading falsehoods and work toward telling the truth?

I did that for over five years from 1986-1991… It didn’t make me a better Christian, but I learned (from the inside) how much quite a bit of Baptist fundamentalism is about controlling people for purposes other than the pursuit of the Kingdom of God.

Those who intentionally tell lies are opposed to Christ. Those who are trapped in sin are usually just people who have not seen/heard the gospel presented in a way they understand yet. Lying about your enemies is one of the best ways to inoculate them to the gospel of Jesus.

*Before tries to use these words as an opportunity to falsely accuse me, I just want to point out that I believe in a person devil (and demons) who are active in our world today. And I’m using the word mythos to refer to a “traditional story” – I’m not saying that this kind of situation is false.

That door was opened a long time before the Beatles appeared on the scene.
Before there was Rock there was the Blues and yet we pour all the ills of this society on the Beatles without putting any accountability on ourselves.
It still holds true today that there is nothing new under the sun.

So, am I to assume that hedonism was nonexistent prior to these four young men from Liverpool arriving upon the music scene? Was that door closed before they opened it?
