Today was one of those days that reminded me that God's plans are always greater than mine.
As a plumbing estimator, I spend my days meeting customers and preparing estimates. Earlier today, I looked at my schedule and noticed a customer I needed to call and meet. Instead of going right away, I put it off so I could work through my backlog. But all day long I carried a heavy burden that I couldn't explain.
Eventually, I went to the customer's home. I expected to discuss the job, but God had something entirely different in mind.
As we talked, the conversation shifted from the estimate to his personal struggles, his health, and ultimately his faith. We spent quite a while talking about Jesus, God's promises, and the hope we have in Him. I was able to encourage him that our living Savior still heals, still comforts, and still walks with His people.
Before I left, I asked if I could pray with him. Standing there in his home, I prayed over him, asking God to strengthen him, bring healing, and remind him that he is never alone.
When I walked away, the burden I had carried all day was gone. It was replaced with a deep sense of peace. In that moment, I realized that God had not sent me there simply to prepare an estimate. He had placed me in that man's life to encourage him, point him back to Jesus, and remind him that there is hope in Christ.
Sometimes we think our work is just a job, but God often uses our ordinary responsibilities to accomplish His extraordinary purposes. Today was a reminder to me that if we remain available and willing, He will open doors to minister to people when they need it most.
I went there expecting to estimate a project. I left knowing that God had already prepared a much more important appointment.
