Anybody heard the new Jars of Clay CD: Redemption Songs?

Lot of old hymns like: I'll fly away, which they do an outstanding take on. Nothing but the Blood, It is well with my soul, On Jordan's stormy banks I stand, just to name a few.

I believe you can listen to the whole CD on their website...Check it out.

I love this album. I have been taking it with me on my business trips, and listening to it in my rental cars.

What a great idea to collaborate with the Blind Boys of Alabama.

Thanks for the tip on Jars of Clay. I saw the Blind Boys of Alabama on tv earlier in the year. They sang "Amazing Grace" to the tune of "The House of the Rising Sun". I was dubious when they announced that they were going to do it. I listened to it, they did not change one word of the song, just the tune. I'm not sure they should have done it, but maybe I'm too criticle.

I never heard any material from the Blind Boys of Alabama. Can you or anyone else recommend any good CDS by them?

Hey riverm,
I don't have any of their CDS yet, but you can probably get them at a Christian Book & Music Store, if they don't have any, they will order them for you. The Christian Book Stores around here will order things they don't have in the store.

Also The Blind Boys of Alabama have a website it's
blindboysofalabama.com It's really interesting.

Most secular music stores also have the Jars of Clay CD, most stores have a well-stocked Christian music section.

dcTalk wrote and performed "Jesus Freak" in 1993.

Jars of Clay is still most famous for their debut song, "Flood".

Haven't heard anything about this one yet. I'll check it out.

The entire "Redemption Songs" album is great. I have it and have listened to it over and over. I still love hymns of the faith. Great album!

This group is one of few contemporary Christian artists that I like. I have yet to buy their music, though. Maybe I'll look into it.

From Christianity Today:

But with this year's album Redemption Songs, Jars of Clay made their own unique contribution to this trend by reaching into Christian history and setting hymns to modern melodies—including some little-known texts that had never been set to music before.

Just bought the CD recently and it is totally awesome. The Blind Boys Of Alabama make a very enegetic contribution on "Nothing But The Blood". The "Redemption Songs" CD is as good as it gets.My favorite song so far is " I'll Fly Away". It's good stuff to sing along with while driving in the car.

I enjoyed their version of "I am Bound for the Promised Land." I enjoyed the variety of arrangements for the hymns... none were carbon copies of the others.

However, I've never really been a fan of Jars of Clay... just never got into their overall "sound."

Didn't stop me from enjoying this CD, however.
