So we should raise taxes on the rich to enlarge government ? What have they shown to be proficient at ?

I would put that in the "fool and their money" category.

LeBuick, I have thought very long about what you have posted.

My one word answer is "spending". :BangHead:

Cutting taxes increases revenue - increasing government spending creates deficits and disincentive to people to work.

But more importantly I have decided that my time is poorly spent arguing with you. I hope that you enjoy the world that Obama and your support of him are creating.

The weather is getting nice again in these parts. My wife and I broke out the tennnis raquets yesterday and are planning on putting a lot of time on the courts this summer. Last night we spent a little time looking for a place to rent for the summer "up north" on Lake Michigan. We are hoping that the kids and their families will come spend a lot of time up there with us this summer.

This weekend we will be going up to get our sailboat ready for the summer and I just will not have the time to argue with people that I do not know about things that they really have little knowledge of.

I will drop by from time to time I suppose to see what everyone is talking about and perhaps offer a thought or two. You Obama followers will have to enjoy your $13 a week and extended unemployment benefits without me.

The Lord has blessed me with a great life and I am going to really enjoy it while it lasts. :wavey:

You continue to say this as if it is the whole of his time in office with regards to economics. When in fact you know full well that he spent like a drunken sailor. Of course you do not mind bringing that up when it is convenient for you. But you refuse to bring them up together. It appears this is done purposely. It is wrong. Any effect the tax cuts could have had was destroyed by spending much like is going on now. Of course you know that.

Please read before you jump the gun. I said an across the board tax cut! Also it is untrue that the rise in income is the result of a conservative propaganda machine. Since when has the Washington bureaucrats become an instrument of conservatives?

Bush spent a lot of money but primarily on the wars. That didn't help the economy much. Besides, history has shown that Reaganomics which was what Bush was using was an abject failure both during Reagan's term and G Bush's term. He should have listened to his father who called it Voodoo Economics. That was a correct assessment.

The only thing spending while simultaneously cutting taxes does is raise the deficit. What does the government deficit have to do with our current economic crises? How did the government deficit cause unemployment to rise? How did out government deficit case home loans to taint? How did our government deficit cause the global market to crash?

You continue to mention Bush spending as if it has something to do with the crises. Bush cut taxes which is a singular impact on businesses and taxpayers yet we have this crises. His spending only cancels the tax cuts when you look at the deficit.

Link to a credible source that says Government revenue increased because Bush cut taxes.

The problem with Reaganomics is that nothing trickled down which put a bigger demand for social programs at the bottom. Reagan had a solid theory that failed in practical application because of the greed of man.

I love what Glenn Back said today.....he said if the rescue of the boat captain had failed, it would've been Bush's fault, but since it was a success, Obama should be congratulated....

You are correct OR. Regardless of how two of the posters on this thread want to rewrite history.

Even their attempt of recent history is spotty.

You cannot consider tax cuts during the Bush admin apart from his spending and then claim tax cuts do not work as a result. Quite frankly it is a bit dishonest.

"This piece was originally published in The Washington Times on August 23, 2006.

Many in the Washington establishment were shocked Aug. 17, when the Congressional Budget Office reported a surge of "unanticipated tax receipts" that will sharply push down this year's deficit. Those who had been proclaiming the Bush tax rate cuts would result in a big reduction in tax revenues tried to hide their disappointment. It was tough being proved wrong again after having said the same thing when Ronald Reagan cut tax rates in the early 1980s.

We have now had three major experiments with tax rate reduction in the last half-century, and each time both economic growth and tax revenues have surged, despite the fears and cries of the anti-tax-cut crowd. How much more evidence will they need to understand the difference between tax rates and tax revenues? Most everyone, including most members of Congress, can understand that properly structured tax rate reduction, by decreasing the impediments to working, saving and investing, will lead to a higher rate of economic growth. Why then is it so difficult to understand that a bigger economic pie can lead to more tax revenue rather than less? "

    http://www.freedomworks.org/publications/tax-cut-revenue-rewards

"WASHINGTON, July 12 - For the first time since President Bush took office, an unexpected leap in tax revenue is about to shrink the federal budget deficit this year, by nearly $100 billion."

    http://www.nytimes.com/2005/07/13/business/13deficit.html

"The Reagan tax cuts, like similar measures enacted in the 1920s and 1960s, showed that reducing excessive tax rates stimulates growth, reduces tax avoidance, and can increase the amount and share of tax payments generated by the rich. High top tax rates can induce counterproductive behavior and suppress revenues, factors that are usually missed or understated in government static revenue analysis. Furthermore, the key assumption of static revenue analysis that economic growth is not affected by tax changes is di sproved by the experience of previous tax reduction programs. There is little reason to expect static revenue analysis to evaluate the economic or distributional effects of current tax reform proposals much better than it evaluated the Reagan tax program 15 years ago. Tax cuts didn't work under Reagan either. He campaigned on reducing the size of government and reducing the deficit and did neither.

I'm not ignoring your response but it's been a long day. Let me read through the articles you provided when I am more alert and I will post what I think. Scanning the articles it appears the bulk is from people not evading their tax responsibilities. That's kind of a two edged sword but let me think on that.

So now we are using the Washington Times as a guide to our thinking about what is wrong with the country's economy and tax policy? Granted, it is a step above the Post and NYT. If the country was being run as the Constitution says, all of the government intervention in private enterprise would be a mute point. If things were being run as the Constitution says, a balanced budget would not be a problem. As long as citizens think the way things are governed today are the norm, the same problems will keep occurring over and over.

Ummmm...no you jumped to conclusions here. There is nothing in these articles that intends to give guidance to anything. It does speak to answer the question about tax cuts as a fact of history.

You are trying very hard, but no dice. One can research tax history for accuracy without going to a newspaper. Those who rely on newspapers, CNN, FOX etc to form their entire perception of government shows up in their posts.

If you have nothing better to do than post messages in a manner designed to give an angry response, then get a hobby, or get a second job.

You set up a false argument. It is not true that using a newspaper for a source somehow shows that we are using the newspapers to guide our thinking on the economy. And I never posted anything "designed" to give an angry response. As you have in the past you assume with no real foundation.
