Would anyone in this thread offer communion to Osama?

There is no message of "I'm OK, you're OK." To suggest that shows a fundamental misunderstanding of the whole issue. Jesus was clearly against sin, but he came to earth to serve and save sinners. That's the whole issue. There is not any kind of acceptance of sin, not even a hint, implicit in this picture or conversation.

We don't do invitations and I wouldn't ever use that song in Christian worship, but we should always strive for peace. I'm ready for the Isaiah text to be fulfilled, with the lion and the lamb lying together.

Any human being who willingly takes the life of another without it being the very last, unavoidable resort is not approaching the issue

But that's not what we're talking about here, anyway.

It's not really germane, but not unless he showed real heart change.

I just realized another aspect in the picture, that no one has commented on...

What would this world be like if all the leaders of the world had the same attitude as Peter?

    John 13:8-10
    (8) Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.
    (9) Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also [my] hands and [my] head.
    (10) Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash [his] feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.

Imagine EVERY leader submitting to Jesus, allowing him to clean them up...

Can you imagine what it would do to the world, if Osama did accept Jesus as Savior? Or the other Terrorist leaders? No more groping by TSA agents!!!! LOL..

Seriously, that would be wonderful wouldn't it...

And Osama would never allow Jesus to wash his feet, not without Osama accepting Jesus.

    Apples and Oranges

Feetwashing is about service toward others.. including the lost

Communion is about believers remembering the sacrifice of Christ.

While I agree the artist mistrepresents what the Scripture teaches with regard to Jesus washing the DISCIPLES feet, I see his intent. And I see nothing wrong with the intent.

If I go out to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, heal the wounded, plead for the widow and orphan, will I exclude those who do not submit to Jesus Christ? Of course not. Would you not plead the cause of a Muslim orphan? Would you not bind the wounds of a man who was found to be a murderer of Christians?

If not, I would say many here have much to learn.

Of course not. He is not a believer.

But if he were to repent and become a Spirit born child of God, yes I would.

But that is a completely different situation than what spawned this thread

This is a very lucid and perceptive statement. Good thoughts.

I am very disturbed by those who believe we are not called to serve our enemies. That is one of the most basic principles for us to live by.

You will have to support your "including the lost" clause.

No you can't. You're just assuming his intent. This image (the imagery of Jesus washing another's feet) is not his to use in whatever context his vain imaginations might conceive. The painting is perverse by its own merits, and is the product of a perverse imagination.

This is one of the most self-contradictory and judgmental posts I can imagine.

You say that one can't determine intent, and then you talk about it coming from a perverse mind.

Just because someone wants to make a point that you don't take kindly doesn't mean his heart is in the wrong place.

For a piece of artwork that I consider to be idolatrous and horrific, check this out.

My point I am making is we are not only called to serve the saved, but the lost also... (Jesus gave us the Parable of the Good Samaritan to combat the image that God's people only serves those like us, remember the guy was trying to justify his inactions by asking, "Who is my Neighbor"..)

This is what I am hearing on this thread when people say they would not minister to Osama... but instead shoot him. They might as well be saying, "Osama isn't my neighbor, so I don't have to minister to him"..

Also, feetwashing was a common custom that was ministered to anyone who travelled far. It was a common, decent thing to do. It was a common service, that was given to people. Jesus used it to teach us to serve others...

Did Jesus die for Osama? (I know, I know.. I may be dealing with Calvinists, but humor me)...

Just because he is our enemy doesn't mean that Jesus didn't die for him.
I, like the writer of the blog in the OP, think that we Americans have replaced our allegiance to our Heavenly Citizenship with our American Citizenship. Just because someone is an enemy of America, and America hates them, doesn't give us the right to hate them, or withhold ministry to them since we are Citizens of a higher place. (This is why I differ with so many on here about Illegal immigration also)

Jesus died for Osama. Jesus died for you. IN God's eyes, you were just like Osama... enemies...

    Romans 5:8-10
    (8) But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
    (9) Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
    (10) For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

Now if Jesus died for Osama... which was the ultimate sacrifice.
surely he would have washed his feet also... which is a small thing to do when compared to death.

I wouldnt go so far as to call it horrific or idolatrous, but it does seem to promote the idea that the United States is the sort of Gods *favorite* nation.

It is true that we started out as a country founded on the christian ideals, but we have now chosen so much hedonism, violence and moral depravity, that if God is dealing with us now, it could very well be the orchestrating of our destruction.

I might should have saved that one for another thread, but I thought the comparison might be interesting. I can always bring it up again, I guess.

No. Christ washing the feet of the disciples has nothing to do with common courtesy, decency or public decorum. It is about intimate fellowship, something you're forbidden to have with the unsaved.

    No I didn't.

Perverse fruit cannot come from something other than a perverse root. The painting cited in the OP is perverse.

I think we know how you feel. Christ humbles Himself and serves Osama.
