He lost his wife and daughter to a drunk driver years ago.

I don't particularly like the man, but I sure do feel bad for him today.

After the death of his first wife Biden wanted to be home every day for his young sons. Thus, he commuted every day by Amtrak. It is a 1½ hour trip each way from his home in the Wilmington to Washington, D.C. He continued to do throughout his Senate career.

His first wife was from Auburn - about a 30 minute trip from the Salt City. They both attended Syracuse University. Later she became a teacher in the Syracuse City School District.

They lived only about 5 minutes from where I grew up.
