Judge rules veterans' cemetary cross must come down

A cross atop Mount Soledad in California is an unconstitutional religious display on government land and must come down, a federal judge in San Diego ruled late Thursday.

U.S. District Judge Larry Burns ordered the cross, which honors veterans, must be removed within 90 days -- a decision that could result in the case being sent back to the U.S. Supreme Court. Burns immediately stayed his order pending an expected appeal.

The original lawsuit was filed in 2006 by the American Civil Liberties Union on behalf of the Jewish Veterans of the United States of American and several other Southern California residents.
The cemetery association is going to continue to fight the order, all the way to the Supreme Court -- again -- if necessary.

The interference of atheists in the free exercise of religion and expressions of faith relates only to Christianity, particularly at this time of year. Obviously this issue has nothing to do with Christmas, but it's odd that the ruling comes at this time of year. The ACLU, for example, never takes issue with displays put up by Muslims, Hindu, Buddhists at this time, or any other time, of year, they don't even complain about menorah displays. But idiots like Jon Stewart stand uip in front of national television audiences and blithely proclaim, "There is no war on Christmas."

Yeah, right, Stewart. Pull your head out of the sand. Or wherever it is stuck.

There is no cemetery on Mt. Soledad. It is a memorial wall around the cross.
