"Liberalism in the United States is a broad political philosophy centered on what many see as the unalienable rights of the individual".

Obviously from the first sentence we can see that what Wiki has posted is false. This is garbage, nothing but garbage.

LIberalism was not responsible for the civil rights act of 1964. Democrats were in fact against it.

Some Democrats were against it: a minority of the Democrats in Congress, Southern Democrats who were outnumbered even in their own party.

Truth is that it was supported by the majority of Democrats in Congress.

Region was more significant than party. To their shame, nearly all Southern Republicans and nearly all Southern Democrats in Congress opposed it!

    Civil Rights Act of 1964

    Not anymore.
Under JFK the Wikipedia Model fits but went into a power-crash beginning with LBJ and the Great Society.
Failed miserably, LBJ then had a temper tantrum and refused reelection.

It is true that today's Democrats are not JFK Democrats.

Can you imagine what kind of reaction would come out the globalist liberal press and party for the following statement (or a 21st century Tweet) :

"And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country".

As unbelievable as it may sound this was a JFK statement out of his Inaugural Address, January 20, 1961.
IOW -Get up out of bed, get off welfare, get a job, support your family, pay your taxes.

How about this one - his personal platform belief:

"the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God".

Ask not what your country can do for you (Kennedy's inuagural address)

Modern liberals do not believe in the Bill of Rights. The Dems, the epitome of liberal, oppose free speech as shown by their move to censor speech not only with hate speech laws but also by deplatforming people on social media. Also, they are against freedom of religion and constantly threaten to tax churches. Finally, the liberals are against the right to bear arms, which is the right of self defense against criminals as well as a malevolent government.

Short answer--No, the Dems/liberals/socialists no longer support the Bill of Rights. They want a totalitarian state with themselves in charge. They don't want you to keep your doctor no matter how much you like your doctor and they want to put you on their plan even if your plan is ten times better.

Final thoughts: Canada is down the road more to a liberal (Justin Trudeau) police state. The reporters there have to be registered or accredited by the Trudeau government or they are barred from political events by all parties and one reporter was arrested and handcuffed even though he was just asking questions from a public sidewalk. The CBC dominates the news and they are a government entity.

Canadians have socialized medicine wherein the government controls who gets what medical treatment when.

Vancouver dumps their raw sewage in the Pacific Ocean giving that area the allure of Venice also without a sewer.

A high school student in Stonewall, Manitoba, was suspended for a hate crime for criticizing a rainbow homosexual poppy decoration worn on their veterans day. She said it disrespected Canadian veterans.

Trudeau and the liberals are throwing the oil industry out of business because they are trying to stop global warming. Eskimos are not allowed to hunt very many polar bears in spite way too many of them so Eskimos are thrown out of work.

Liberals hate modern farming. Canada has imposed a carbon tax on farmers averaging $700 a year and maybe another $3000 a year if they dry grain. The idea is to tax workers so that Ottawa can pass out welfare to Quebec, where many don't work evidently. Canadians think that farmers should not plow or use pesticides, etc.

The point is that Liberals want to control every aspect of your life and work and speech. The are leftist totalitarians. Of course, Canada is a dumpster fire, but our Democrats are as mean as Justin Trudeau. Do you think liberals wish you well or believe in live and let live?

    Garbage is right.

It's actually a philosophy centered on taking away the inalienable rights of the individual in favor of group think.

That's the history they continue to seek to revise. Some day it will be missing from the history books entirely.

No. The article covers a lot of ground and indicates definitions have shifted. The first paragraph is correct that early American thought was a type of liberalism—the type conservatives seek to conserve—the type concerned with unalienable rights as enshrined in the founding documents, including the Bill of Rights.

However, "separation of church and state" is foreign to that thinking, since the influence of religion is fundamental to instilling the requisite moral responsibility for enjoying those rights and freedoms.

The second paragraph is naturally way off. "Modern liberalism" has abandoned the original fundamentals in favor of perversions that essentially undermine and oppose the much earlier concept. What "modern liberals" call liberating and progressive has just the opposite effect on society. Their ideology is cloaked in euphemism designed to deceive those who think superficially or not at all.
