Liberals are the real violent protesters

So the Tea party has been vilified as causing potential violence but liberal protesters show their colors:

An opponent of government healthcare programs had part of a finger bit off during a fight at a pro-healthcare-reform rally this week in Thousand Oaks.

William Rice, 65, of Newbury Park was with a small group of counter-protesters at a vigil Wednesday night organized by Moveon.org when a man bit off part of his left pinky finger during a scuffle, authorities said. Doctors were unable to reattach Rice’s finger.

The fight over Senate Bill 1070 took to the streets of downtown Phoenix, as riot Police were called to the Capitol to control an unruly group of protesters.

Witnesses say a group protesting against SB1070 began to fight with a man who was for the controversial immigration bill.

Police tried escorting that man away from the scene, fearing for his safety, when they too came under attack by people throwing items, including water bottles.

I'm saying that not all liberals are violent. I used to call myself a moderate, but then I realized that I'm really a liberal with a few right-wing views on abortion and guns and some other social issues.

This is terrible. Unbelieveable the way people react to things. It is natural for folks when "their group" is portrayed like this to react with "well you guys do it too!" And there have been conservatives that have taken radical actions such as this.

But what anyone should do is without excuse condemn such stupid behavior.

I've been doing what everyone else has been doing: watching as the media have focused on the extremists on both sides. I'm sure that there are some racists and homophobes among the Tea Party faithful. And, I'm sure that there are hatemongers of various stripes among their opponents. However, I've never thought that the Tea Party people were, as a group, as nutty as the media portrayed them. I have thought that some of the quotes that have been published have shown the speakers to be ill-informed, but that doesn't mean that the whole group is nuts. It also doesn't mean that they don't have some valid points that need to be given a hearing. I try to look past the hyperbole to what is really being said, but that doesn't mean that I can't have some fun with it.
