Let's compile a list of Baptist mega-churches (membership over 5,000).

So far, I've visited the following:

Second Baptist Church - Houston, Texas - Independent Baptist - 25,000 members
First Baptist Church - Houston, Texas - Southern Baptist - 21,000 members
Thomas Road Baptist Church - Lynchburg, Virgina - Southern Baptist - 22,000 members
First Baptist Church - Dallas, Texas - Southern Baptist - 20,000+ members

I also know of the following:
Saddleback Community Church - Mission Viejo, CA - Southern Baptist
Wooddale Baptist Church - Eden Prarie MN
River Bend Baptist Church - Austin, TX.

Do you know of any others?

Are you sure about 2nd Baptist, Jonathan? I read through all their materials and could not find any reference.

    Thanks Jamal.

    Anyone else?

Am curious about the current total for First Baptist Church, Hammond, Indiana? In 1995, they reported 75,000 members to Baptists Around the World by Albert Wardin, p. 444.

Webmaster, I also think that Second Baptist, Houston, is a SBC church, but I am not positive.

First Southern in Del City, OK used to be a Mega church. Not sure what it runs now.

Do they have to have Baptist in their name or just be baptistic?

    75,000??? Hmm.

At least with Second Baptist Church of Houston, they had 19,010 people attend a worship service during the week I was there (according to their bulletin). Also, 7,972 attended Bible Study and 920 cars parked off campus (campus parking is in the thousands, I suppose - it definitely has more parking than a Wal-Mart or Home Depot) [IMG]

Second Baptist in Houston is SBC

Don't think they would have been expecting Ed Young to speak at the SBC convention if he had been Independant.

Fellowship Church, which is in the DFW metroplex, would probably be a mega church. Ed Young Jr. is there. .. . SBC ties like the church where his father pastors, (second Baptist church in houston)

    Is NPCC Baptist?

Quote from their site: "Currently, North Point Community Church has over 9,000 adults participating in two morning worship services, of which 2,200 are members."

Does this mean they only have 2,200 members?

Well, maybe they are Baptistic. Andy Stanley, son of Charles Stanley, has been a Baptist pastor in the past, and having visited there, it is so baptistic, it is baptistic. But I am not sure that I have seen ANYTHING that has carried a baptist logo.
