'Visits to fast food restaurants and gas stations have already returned to their pre-coronavirus baselines in rural regions, Foursquare reported. While suburban and urban areas are still below normal, those areas have seen 15 percent growth since the end of March.

Gas stations have seen a rebound too. According to Foursquare, gas station visits were down as much as 11 percent from their national averages in the early weeks of April but down only 6 percent for the week of April 24. In some parts of the country—mostly in the Midwest, where the COVID-19 outbreak has been less severe—the visits had returned to pre-coronavirus levels. ...

The data also show something about the nature of the shutdowns. They might have been encouraged by executive orders, but they were always ultimately driven by voluntary behavior. Well before states started issuing stay-at-home orders in the final week of March, many Americans were voluntarily self-quarantining.

Since officials had only limited influence over the beginning of the lockdown, they were always going to have limited influence over its ending. This was always unsustainable over the long term, and coronavirus policies need to be reconsidered in light of that."

Bush said this is a time of testing so OK Boomer maybe you are getting tested but there aren't any tests around here for ordinary people.

It's interesting to watch some of the more authoritarian leaders across the country, most of them democrats, struggle to hold onto their newfound power.

Hi, carpro! Indiana is so often overlooked in the list of bad governors. Ours said that a handful of people peacefully picketing outside the dilapidated Indiana Governors Mansion were not helpful and right now he is disobeying a ruling from the US Supreme Court 9-0. He needs to back off and let people go back to work. I guess it could be worse. Toronto police just got the message not to ticket people for $880 fines for sitting on park benches if they are six feet apart. I got a half acre so I don't go to parks very often.

What states had forced closures of gas stations and fast food restaurants? Any of them?

Here in Minnesota the fast food restaurants remained open, albeit for drive through service only. No gas stations were closed.

In other words, a slight uptick in gas station purchases and fast food purchases does not indicate people are rebelling against the government ordered shutdowns, since these places were never shutdown to begin with. There are plenty of other indications that people are tiring of the stay-at-home orders.

Another thing to consider is that gas station visits would likely be increasing at the end of April because a lot of people only used a tankful of gas in the past 6 weeks and now need to fill up. The last time I bought gas was on March 12th and I've still got a quarter of a tank remaining.

AG Bill Barr has put people like him on notice.

Continued Abuse of Constitutional rights will not be tolerated. He might get a visit from the AG's office.
