To the contrary, he's about as irresponsible as he can get.

He jumped the gun, spoke out of school, should have let the investigation run it's course before he ran his mouth.

Shameful behavior for a Congressman of his stature. It calls his judgement in other matter into question.

You haven't proven that his mentioning the Haditha incident in his criticism of Bush adversely affected the soldiers - it had already been splashed in the papers and on tv months before he said anything. You seem to have a double standard for which investigations it's shameful to speak about before they're done.

It's pretty childish to call people names. Pretty unoriginal of you as well. Republican right-wingers must be desparate to resort to such shrill foolishness.

He make a mistake of fact and corrected it. Big deal.

You're quoting from Novak, the person who outed Plame? There's a shining light of integrity.

Mistakes on this subject seem to be unavoidable for Murtha. Senility may be creeping up on him.

Not a good sign for one who aspires to be majority leader if democrats take the House.

What a silly slander. He corrected his mistake right away. How long did it take the right-wing hate-mongers to correct their mistake about him (linkie)?

The Republicans are gunning for him, hard. They seem scared.

Looks like the media (and some misled individuals) went on a shoot-the-messenger binge.

How nice that a few were gracious enough to apologize to Murtha for smearing him. How predictable that so many were not.

I said what I said not the words you're trying to put in my mouth. Do you think the US should be a nation governed by law?

He hasn't corrected his major mistake and can't.

He jumped the gun, spoke out of school, should have let the investigation run it's course before he ran his mouth.

Shameful behavior for a Congressman of his stature. It calls his judgement in other matters into question.

Several of his remarks in the past few months have damaged the morale of the Marines and hurt recruiting.

    He should be ashamed.

Stuff and nonsense. He didn't comment on the investigation but on an international incident which the President's fumbling led to. He had every right to use that incident as an illustration.

You claim that his remarks - which remarks? - have hurt recruiting - how can you tell whether it was a Congressman's remarks or the prospect of an unwinnable, unending quagmire of an occupation of a country that used to pose no immediate threat?

Murtha is being targeted by the Republicans because he criticised the President and because he is up for re-election this year.

Recruiting was hurting long before Murtha talked about the incident. Bush treats the troops with contempt and fails to support them, and they have been returning the favor.

So much so, that stop-loss programs have been imposed, adding time to those already beyond their contracted enlistments.

You're right. He didn't comment on the investigation.

He simply publicly pronounced the Marines guilty of cold blooded murder before the investigation was finished and before charges were filed.

    He should be ashamed.

They guys who did it, are heros? And the guy who deplored it should be ashamed?

Interesting values, to say the least.

    If you say so.

    But I didn't and won't.

When evil happens, we have to take sides. You're on the wrong side on this one.

I am firmly on the side of innocent until proven guilty.

    Unlike Murtha. And you.

So you're contending that the incident didn't happen, that, contrary to the evidence, the civilians weren't shot at close range in their own homes? That the grenades somehow made bullet holes in them (that looked as though they were shot close range} instead of shrapnel wounds? Or maybe the civilians shot themselves to make the marines look bad.

How do you explain the original tale told?

    Nice spin.

I am contending that the investigation is not finished, no charges have been filed, and no trial has been held. I am further contending that they are innocent until proven guilty.

Why is this so difficult for you and Galation and Murtha to understand?

In your zeal to defend the inexcusable conduct of a grandstanding politician, you have apparently forgotten one of the basic tenets of American justice.

Here's a hint. Trial by media is not one of them. Neither is trial by a pandering politician.

Murtha commented on the incident. He never accused any particular Marine of wrong-doing - and you know it. You seem to be claiming that the entire incident cannot be mentioned publicly because individuals are still under investigation even though the only individual he accused was Bush.

His commenting on the incident - which you may or may not be claiming didn't happen, I can't tell - is not indefensible at all. Politicians are allowed to comment on events that happened, whether you like it or not. The incident happened, the military lied about it, the media publicized it in print & full-color video THEN Murtha commented on it. Again, he did not finger any individual marine.

Here's a hint back: They are not being tried by the media nor by Murtha. In your zeal to slime him like the hate-radio guys do, you conveniently overlook what happened and pretend it's something else entirely.

What evidence? The results of the investigation have not been released and no charges have been filed. Where did this informantion come from? couldn't possibly be the media, could it?

It seems you agree with Murtha's verdict of cold blooded murder based on evidence released by the media.

    Congratulations.

You have now bought the verdict of the trial by media and by pandering politician.

Why don't we just arrest those Marines an put them in prison? Who needs a completed investigation, charges filed, and Heaven forbid...a trial?

So far, no one's trying these men. That will be up to the investigators to decide. But we do know that they lied about the way those civilians died, because their wounds say they were shot, not killed by shrapnel, and we know that they lied about a firefight against people in those houses, because only the interior of the houses have bullet holes.

So then we come down to why they lied. Any reasonable person would look at the evidence, and conclude the obvious. Our legal system puts a much higher standard of evidence on such charges, and rightly so.

So OJ is officially innocent. It is not wrong for people to conclude he is guilty, however.

Again, you're on the wrong side, carpro. This is why Americans are disgusted with the no-win war Bush pulled us into. This kind of thing saps the morale and character of our troops, and eventually some weaken and commit atrocities.

A free society was not meant to fight wars like this.

We know no such thing. You are making an assumption based on another accusation by Murtha of a coverup.

The Marines actually involved have never wavered from their stories at all. None of them. At all.

    Not even a little bit.
