Has Christian America come to an end? That question has been hotly debated since Newsweek published their recent feature story reporting that the number of Americans claiming no religious affiliation has nearly doubled since 1990. Additionally, the percentage of self-identified Christians has dropped ten points in the past two decades.

As an evangelical pastor with one of America’s fastest-growing churches in one of its least churched cities, I do not find the report surprising or discouraging. Newsweek missed the subtle — but vital — difference between Christian America and Christendom America.

As much as I may not agree with him on some things, Mark Driscoll makes me THINK!!

    Doesn't Driscoll practice open theism?

Can you tell me what open theism is? I haven't heard that term.

Where did you get that idea? Do you even know what open theism is?

This six yearold has, right here on BB.

Besides, he is at least right in that Christendom is actually in opposition to Christianity. I would listen to what he has to say about that particular subject
, even if he acts like a six year old too.

Instead of trying to ridicule your opponent, why not just define iot as you do?

Oh that's right, there's no fleshly satisfaction in just dealing firsthand with the subject unless you attemtp to demoralize and ridicule the one you disagree with.

    Here's a nice definition:
    Glad God doesn't create robots.

HG, you seem to have a disconnection between your two paragraphs. You're trying to make a point -- but your very own words betray you.

Not sure how one practices open theism...;)...but no, absolutely no, Pastor Mark doesn't believe in open theism. In fact he has said much against it.

btw open theism is the denial that God (the Trinitarian God) has exhaustive foreknowledge of future events of mankind.

Thankfully evangelicalism responded to the Open Theist camp and resoundingly defeated their claims. An Open Theist is about as rare as hens teeth these days. Most of them keep their heads down.

And you seem to be making a connection that doesn't involve you, nor should it concern you the way it does.

Would you mind sticking to the discussion and quit picking out little things that assuredly seem to satisfy this longing you posess?

If iIwere to make a speedy assumption as you do, I would say you fit in the catagory of christendom. So if you want to take that chance of causing others to view you in that frame, keep avoiding the topic and carry on with your longings.

Driscol was asked a question. I think his response was accurate. Can you deal with that subject and leave this longing you have alone? I doubt you can. We'll see really soon.

If God knows the future and is control of it, then why does he allow sin to go on? I thought God sent His Son to die for sin, not so sin could be dragged out throughout the ages.

I don't really have anything to contribute to the OP except, Harold, leave my friends alone.

This is the first time in the history of me being online that I'm considering using the ignore feature.

I read the article, and could not relate it to Open Theism. I have always understood (and am sure there is more to it than this) that Open Theism is basically that God does not know the future He created. If Mark is teaching this, I see no evidence of it.

Driscoll is reformed/calvinistic. He's definitely not an open theist.

I thought the discussion was about the article, not the person.

Since some cannot leave well enough alone without being condescending, or address a question of relevence without the same, AND this is degrading to just another typical gossip column about a person, I will gladly and gracefully depart from this:saint:

Why are you telling us you are departing? No one asked you to chime in.
