Mark McGwire Admits Using Steroids

Mark McGwire finally came clean Monday, admitting he used steroids when he broke baseball's home run record in 1998.

McGwire said in a statement sent to The Associated Press on Monday that he used steroids on and off for nearly a decade.

"I wish I had never touched steroids," McGwire said in a statement. "It was foolish and it was a mistake. I truly apologize. Looking back, I wish I had never played during the steroid era."

Sad. His record should be revoked, and an apology issued to the family of Roger Maris. ANd they should let Pete Rose back in.

Wasn't Pete Rose the guy that had a sports record, but gambled and got caught... and was refused recognition as punishment? (Sorry but I'm not up to goggling rt now... and don't really do sports anyhoo.):wavey:

Pete Rose bet on baseball while he was the manager of the Cincinnati Reds. Because of that, he was banned from baseball for life, making him ineligible for the Hall of Fame.

..a.nd McGwire broke Roger Maris' homerun record while artificially enhanced. Either all cheaters should be allowed in, or all cheaters should be left out. Rose's betting on baseball did not influence his play and his record...McGwire's did. I think the greater sin here is steroids, not gambling...and to hold such a hard line stance on Rose and gloss over the roid heads under their watch is injustice.

Come on. You gotta believe me. Really."

Big Deal! Why should it matter to anyone? If playing baseball is that important to him how has it hurt me?

Say it was discovered that steroids could help handicapped children. Should they then be banned from athletic competition?

Are you all not pro-freedom? Don't you believe that the government should get out of regulating self-medication? You all do know that one can overdose on oil based vitamins? Should large dose vitamins also be regulated?

How about the new drugs that apparently can improve mental capacity? Is it unfair that some parents might give them to their children? After all, could the children then unfairly compete for good grades and scholarships?

Heard on Coast that the Govt has been testing a new drug that eliminates the need for rest. Supposedly it has been tried on military personnel. The experiment had chopper pilots fly a simulator for 24 hours, sleep for 8 hours, and then fly another 24 hours with no loss of flying ability. Would it be unfair for a person to use this to compete in the job market?

I don't understand your point. There are many medical reasons for steroids and nobody is saying that is an issue. However that has nothing to do with using them for cheating. There are always rules in sports in order to keep the level of play fair. It has nothing to do with if things that are beneficial or allowed in our lives otherwise.

It's about integrity. Cooperstown is no better than the integrity it displays of its members. I would now have McGuire's name permanently removed from consideration.

I don't want my son growing up thinking that it's ok to cheat. I don't want him to grow up thinking it's necessary to take a drug that in the end may very well kill him. Plus, I want him to live in his own strength and not that of some performance enhancing drug. Above all else I want him to be filled with the Holy Spirit and not filled with some synthetic that makes him into something that at its base is nothing but a lie.

Why don't we just stop professional sports altogether? If they're just going to get all hopped up to play, just take the play away.
