When I was a kid I liked to buy Superman comics (Action comics, Superman, Superboy, even Jimmy Olson had a comic book, etc.) at garage sales. I liked the Flash and to a lesser extent, Batman. This is back when the cover price of a new comic book was 10 cents and then 12 cents. I would buy handfuls of comics for a quarter at the garage sales. I remember loving those Giant 80 page comics because they usually had four or five stories in them.

When Superman the Movie came out in 1978 I was there on opening night. I loved it!

On the Marvel side, I occasionally read Spiderman and the Fantastic Four, but not too much.

I recently watched The Avengers movie in 4K. While the video presentation was stunning, the story itself didn't do much for me. They are literally comic book heroes. What terrible outcome is going to happen to them?

I saw Ironman when it came out years ago and thought it was pretty good. But there are way, way too many superhero movies nowadays.

Superman is the main man! Always saw him as being Jesus if he was a DC character... Liked DCbetter, as they have the Presense, God, and seem to be more based upon God, angels, even have a Lucifer Morningstar. while Marvel more based upon science and aliens...

I was a big Marvel fan in the late 80s and 90s. The X-Men and Spider-Man were ny favorites. The only thing I really enjoyed from DC was The Sandman, but that was technically under their Vertigo label.

I did not get into Spiderman or the Marvel due to them being seen as nerds and outsiders, as I was, wanted to see myself more like a Superman!

My parents wouldn’t let me read comic books.
So I went to my friends house and we’d spend time after school each week reading comic books.

They wouldn’t let me cross over the highway either, so on weekends we’d cross underneath to look for fossils in the creek on the other side.

Yes, I was following the letter of the law rather than the intent.

    Superman was my favorite.

I wish we had sound on the BB for you to hear me choke on my glass of milk and then laugh like hyena.

I don't care who you are - THAT was genuinely funny!

Comic books were what got me interested in reading.

In time, I "graduated" to "real books."

I liken it to the process of starting out with a "dynamic equivalence" Bible translation, and then transitioning to a "formal equivalence" translation. :)

Yes, I read it, and I "liked" it.

But since reading comic books in my home was not "forbidden fruit," it did not apply to my situation. ;)
