Nir Barkat encourages residents to protect themselves
The Mayor of Jerusalem has called on citizens to carry firearms after a wave of stabbings in Israel, a far cry from President Obama’s efforts to push for gun control in the aftermath of last week’s shooting in Oregon.
Israel has seen at least four attacks over the last week, with the latest victims being a 14-year-old and a police officer. This followed the revenge stabbing of four Arabs by an Israeli in the southern city of Dimona.
Meanwhile, a Palestinian woman in the city of Afula was shot when she attempted to stab a security guard at a bus station. A Palestinian man also attacked a police officer and tried to wrestle away his gun near the entrance to the Kiryat Arba settlement in the West Bank.
Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat responded to the escalating wave of violence by encouraging responsible people to carry firearms for personal protection.
