Well, I spoke too soon I guess. We have got to do something with the athiests who are getting on the board just to cause havoc. One of these goes by the name of Jimmy Higgins and you will find him posting all over a board called Infidels.org which is a board promoting athiesm. He has attacked me more than once on a personal level. For example: "Phillip: You need to get an education man."

If you read his posts it becomes obvious he is probably very young and is just using this board for fun stirring up trouble among Christians. So, in my opinion, some sort of control needs to be added for situations such as this. I don't know how, without censorship, but this is probably going to be an on-going situation as long as there are people out there who wish to attack Baptists and we know what Jesus says about that--so, we might as well get used to it. I used to answer him in detail, but found out later it usually does better for the members just to ignore these posts. I would say, let the Infidels post, but we as Christians need to learn not to attack back and get upset. That is exactly what they want us to do. Our best move here is to just ignore the kids (no matter what age they are) unless they are asking for honest help or questions.

The only problem is they are really spouting off in the areas of "America fights back" and "Evolution" <-- probably the only things that Baptists discuss that they can relate to.

Yeah! Me too! My post got edited! And I don't even remember what I said! But, I trust Barnabas's judgment, and if he thought it should go, he is probably right. Sometimes I am a bit lacking in the deportment department. [IMG]

For the most part I think the board is fine the way it is.
The parts I dont like are those where the conversation goes hateful. This is why I dont post much. I refuse to have my "opinions" slammed by those who do not agree, which I have seen time and again.
I think that the ones that are here to cause trouble should be removed, simple as that.
Yes I believe in showing Godly love, but why argue with someone who is so hateful.

These are hard questions to answer. But I think that the Board has been moderated well for the most part. The suggestion of a pair of moderators working together may be a sound idea.
I hope it is all right for me to make a few suggestions outside the questions asked. (It better be, 'cause I'm going to make some anyway. Aren't I being bold?)
One thing that I have trouble with are posts that are nearly a page long. If folks would learn to shorten their posts, it would make it easier on us lowly beings who have trouble reading online. I guess the same could be said for "high-faluting" language; I'd rather read posts without a dictionary. It doesn't happen often, but it does nonetheless.
My main concern for this board is that people have a tendency to post "on the fly." They don't stop to consider how their posts are coming across. And they don't seem to take a deep breath before posting. The mentality is like "He stepped on my toes, so I'm going to give him what-for." I know someone who composes answers on a word processor first, then pastes and posts. I personally had someone write something (elsewhere) that I found very, very inflammatory and it took me at least a month before I could find the right answer for her. Believe me, that was one l-o-n-g d-e-e-p breath, but it worked. Oh, yes, and anyone who notices my posts may also notice that I tend to edit a lot as well.
So, now I've got to close this very long posting (my longest yet). I like this Board, and I'd hate to see it shut down. Please, please, please keep it.

I don't know about editing your post Dr. Cassidy, unless I have seen some QUOTE **** [edited] *****. But I do not recall you ever ***** so to speak. ;) But then again, you can never know what the Administrators and Moderators see in our posts - they may even dare to correct me! :D

I remember what it was you said. I remember thinking it was somewhat out of character, but not out of line.

I posted this to another thread, but I thought it would be relevent to this thread too...

I really don't think denominations in themselves are the evil. It is how people handle them. The evil is when we judge people by their denomination and not by their fruits.

1.) Who should be allowed to post on Baptist Board? (Baptists only, Baptists and other “friendly” born-again believers, everybody, etc.)
Anyone who is willing to abide by the Baptist Board rules.

2.) Should every member be allowed to post everywhere? Or is the current “Baptist-only” and “Free-for-All” limitation a good solution?
Any member who is Baptistic in doctrine should be able to post anywhere. For instance, I have been a member of a Baptist church for over 25 years of my life. However, now I am currently a member of a Berean Fellowship church. To change churches, I didn’t change my doctrine. I am a Christian, first and foremost, a Biblicist, and not apologetic for my beliefs. However, if the board were to change to Baptist-only, as in a member of a Baptist church, I would not be able to post.

3.) How can the webmaster/administrators determine who is Baptist is who is not?
He can try, but anyone can lie.

4.) Should the registration process be modified so that everyone would need to provide the name of his/her church – or would that mean a loss of privacy?
No change, unless it would be to list a denomination.

5.) How should the board be moderated? Would an unmoderated board make more sense? How should the moderators change?
I think the moderators are needed. Posts that are offensive, vulgar, or contain bad language should be edited or deleted. Posts that moderators disagree with should be left alone.

6.) Is it time for “lights out” because the idea of a civil and constructive Baptist discussion board is not achievable?
No, I love coming to the Baptist Board and reading what my fellow brothers and sisters are thinking and occasionally getting in on the discussion.

Thanks for giving us a place to come and post.

Being fairly new to the Board my opinion should be wieghed accordingly. For the most part the board works. We do have some non or very confused baptists posting in the baptist forums. They have not detracted at all rather it has helped me in my beliefs. To know whats wrong with something you have to know whats right. To say the others belief is wrong you need to be sure of what you believe.
Sorry for being long winded but the biggest reason I came to this board stemmed from a problem with my home church. To answer Thomas this baptist is ashamed of his home church. After I found out htat my church was run by masons and I mean from the pulpit down I couldn't attend there any more and at this writing I have yet to find another one.

Please keep the board though it helped me in this regard. My former pastor was helping me with the decision of where to attend bible college/seminary. I found this board in an attempt to find more information about the school I want to attend. I wasn't sure I could trust any place he had recomended to me. Since then the responses to my wustions were good and even those here I disagree with are by and large civil. It is a place to disscuss and exchange ideas freely. You don't find that just anywhere and nothing this side of paradise will be perfect.

For what they are worth these are my .02.

Thanks, Barnabas. I believe the Bible is the absolutely true, inerrant Word of God. But just because I believe that doesn't mean I actually read it or apply it.

I'm trying not to laff 2 loud. I'm in a public library while I'm reading this thread about how Baptists need to control each other's speech. If only we had another Hitler, we could form a Nazi-Baptist movement and confine "liberal" Baptists to concentration camps, etc. Come to think of it, one Baptist denomination, in its Y2K convention, did make a resolution supporting the death penalty! Sneer at me, if you like, but history is filled with religious tyrants who worried about how to control people's thoughts. Seriously, instead of looking for another Hitler to elect at next year's convention, what if we believed that Jesus is our Lord, instead of just a book that is subject to our earthly lords' decree? Woe, I'm way outta this thread, go ahead & edit my thoughts!

Not to get into a debate here, but this moderator does believe in some forms of evolution and is not a YEC. I do believe that God created the universe, the how and how long is really in question (IMHO). You have your balance...any other complaints?

I'll try to make this short as I'm not good at writing. But I feel I should commit.

I think the BB forum is a good thing and needs to stay the way it is.
I also think we as christains sometimes forget how mean poeple can get or what some christain think. Some may feel the old time religion needs to be more up to date.
I feel and believe God and his word is the same yesterday today and tomorrow. and seperation means seperation. The comments that show up in the forum should remind us that not everybody likes what is being said. If we try to answer all comments it may give some of us the info we need to answer thoughs same question in our own little world.

Thanks for your time.

I think Dr. Thomas Cassidy is correct, leave it as it is. If a post goes to far out of what I think is correct doctrine, I just leave it alone. Why, because I think who ever it was ,will get upset if I tell them that I think they are wrong and way off base, but they think they should tell me I'm wrong or a nut and be happy. Some you can debate and have fun some you can't.

The how and how long has been answered in the scriptures.

How - by the word of his mouth
How long - in 6 literal 24 hour days

The problem with this board is that very few will take the scriptures at face value and believe what it says. This place is a breeding ground for heretics.

I think things should stay the way they are. This is a good forum and many enjoy and learn from the discussions. Please don't change a thing.

This thread is open for opinions until next Wednesday.

I will review all posts in detail over the Thanksgiving weekend and will post my conclusion in the Moderators' Forum first. After the Administrators and Moderators agree on the best course of action, the official decision will be posted here.

So if you have anything to say, say it now [IMG]
