One of the very distinctives of the Baptist faith is freedom of religion.

Your personal experience hardly qualifies you to speak for every Mormon. It seems others here expect you to give better evidence supporting your claims, since they do not match reality as demonstarted in the fact that (unlike Magnetic Poles) my LDS friends did try to convert me and yet remained my friends after having failed to do so.

Just when and where were you taught the things you claim Mormons are expected to do? Just because you embraced such an attitude--or even if your bishop led your entire ward in such practices--this hardly warrants a blanket statement.

It already does, as well as Catholics and Jews. Besides, the Amendment is a prohibition on Congress, not state legislatures.

Actually, SCOTUS ruled that the 14th Amendment's due process clause renders the 1st Amendment's provisions applicable to state-level governments. Regardless of whether we find the court's argument compelling, the free practice of religion has been incorporated for some time now (since the 1940s?).

Christians bemoan the fact that the Church in some Islamic countries is underground; yet when the roles are reversed here in the States, the same people don't want them to practice here. Interesting.

NJ is a beautiful state except for 10 miles around Newark.

Really? The Muslims can behead infidels? The Catholics can burn heretics? The Jews can stone blasphemers? Can the Mormons solemnize plural marriages?

There is only one religion truly free: Protestant Christianity.

Ah, so Protestants never did any of these things? It may prove helpful to bone up on your history... Allow me to recommend some subjects:

    Felix Manz
    The Salem Witch Trials
    The Oneida Community

Judging from your estimate, Protestants in the US may freely drown, press, or hang heretics / dissenters / witches and practice complex marriage. Since this is not the case, I guess Protestant Christianity is not truly free.

The historical myopia it takes to make this statement is...stunning.

Michael Servetus would tend to lump in some others...

It is one of the basics of their beliefs, as it is ours. Light cannot associate with darkness, so you do your job and tell them what you believe and your efforts are focused on conversion. A Baptist is not a believer to a Mormon, and a Mormon is not a believer to a Baptist.

Neither of us (to my knowledge) are supposed to seek outside relationships/friendships with non-believers without the goal of conversion, the same way a believer wouldn't seek out a non-believer for marriage and still be right in doing so.

More accurately, your examples are not indicative of Protestant Christianity. Though you may point to isolated cases of abuse by protestants, there is no duty or practice in the Protestant tradition for which a man may be prosecuted in the U.S. (At least not up till a few years ago.)

Not so in the sects I named.
