    Very true!

I still do not understand why Bush, knowing politics as he should, did not nominate one of the conservative judges that had already been through the confirmation process.

I really think we have unjustly decided that GWB is one of the religious conservatives. He is not IMO, and I do not think she withdrew because of any reason other than the Christian right has become completely fed up and is desperate to have him appoint a Row v. Wade wrecker. The fact that he nominated her, with so many fully qualified, pre-vetted and acceptable candidates available, has caused this move.

He now sees that he must get back to his base, (he's at low 40% approval) and in a hurry. At least I hope he sees that. His next nominee will speak volumes.

The point is, from all indications, Bush thinks the radical right did it.

And he might not be steadfast about much, but he never forgets an injury.

It should be interesting what he serves up next.

Agreed...that goes for judicial philosophies as well, which I understand is not too far seperated from the political.

Like his daddy, he wants so bad to reach out and be friends with those who are his enemies and only wish to destroy him. I hope he learned his lesson that this is a stupid strategy and not the way to go. It is time to stop trying to appease the losers of the election and nominate a pro-life conservative. The Dems will whine and cry and even try to filibuster. But don't forget that election year is coming and the conservative base will fight for an acceptable candidate. This is part of the major reasons we worked so hard for him last year. If he will stand with us, we will stand with him and help him get the conservative through. Next to the war, this is the single most important decision of our generation. It is that important.

OK now I forgive Bush for his turning his back on the Christain right. He finally realized that his political well being is tied to the Christain right.
