Mixed messages: Obama and State Dept. not on the same page re: Ukraine

I'm no fan of Samantha Power, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. But in this speech before the Security Council this morning, she nailed it:
You.Tube: Power at UN: 'This war can be ended. Russia can end this war. Russia must end this war.'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbH5SFUyEsghttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbH5SFUyEsg

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power put pressure on Russia Friday to resolve the conflict in eastern Ukraine. Russia can end this war. Russia must end this war, she said.If pro-Russian separatists are responsible for shooting down Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 with a missile, it cannot be ruled out that Russia offered help to operate the system, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power said Friday. The United States and Ukraine are committed to a diplomatic solution to the crisis in eastern Ukraine, but it Russia continues to choose escalation, additional sanctions will follow, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power said Friday.
She ended her remarks with the words of that headline: "Russia can end this war. Russia must end this war." But at the White House, the tone was distinctly different.
Telegraph: Malaysia Airlines plane crashes on Ukraine-Russia border - livehttp://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/wor...ne-crashes-on-Ukraine-Russia-border-live.htmlhttp://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/wor...ne-crashes-on-Ukraine-Russia-border-live.html

"It's time for all of us to step back and take a long hard look at what has happened ... Russia, the separatists and Ukraine all have the capacity to halt the fighting [Emphasis added] ... Meanwhile, the United States will continue to lead the international community and stand up for the territorial integrity of Ukraine. "
Less than an hour after his U.N. ambassador laid the blame squarely on Russia's doorstep, presenting evidence that all but seals that conclusion, he equivocates, flops and meekly spreads the blame around, and then inexplicably claims that the U.S. stands up for Ukrainian sovereignty when he has done absolutely nothing to indicate that is true. He paid some lip service to more blame lying with Russia and the separatists, but he didn't sound convincing, nor did he react sternly as his own U.N. ambassador did.

The man is truly clueless, unwilling to admit that his "Russian Reset" utterly failed, that his vision of how the world should be is never going to be how the world actually is, regardless of how much he wishes and hopes for it.
