"Less than four months after it laid off nearly 340 employees at its Indianapolis factory, Carrier announced that 215 more employees will be terminated on Jan. 11. ...

Although Carrier employees appeared elated in widely circulated photographs after Trump struck the deal with the company, the mood in Indianapolis has apparently soured as layoffs continue."

The deal never saved all of the jobs but it did save many of the jobs. Carrier is about the last heating/air conditioning company to manufacture in the USA. Across the street from the Carrier plant is a Target warehouse that also is suffering but for another reason. Indiana used to be highly industrialized but not so much anymore. Indianapolis now is a warehouse distribution center with tens of thousands of low-paying jobs. Consequently, one of the better jobs in Indianapolis now is truck driver. Indianapolis is just another big city with a high murder rate (per capita about the same as Chicago) and a lot of racial tension.

Carrier could relocate to Texas. Better working conditions, better climate, good tax structure, great universities, and of course it has a strong workforce that is generally not union controlled.

They left Syracuse as it is - at least the manufacturing division -
and I am sure that NY Taxes had something to do with it.

A good portion of the land was given to the town - and turned into a sports field.

Indianapolis lost Navistar (the old International Harvester) to Alabama and the union was left behind so that if Alabama unionizes the new Navistar plant then Indianapolis employees will have seniority down south. The unions helped to destroy Detroit because of high wages and low work quotas. Some union members now vote Republican but their compulsory union dues help fund Democrat campaigns. What do you think is the future of the industrial unions?
