More and more, we are seeing parents punished and shamed by the government in front of their children if they attempt to raise them appropriately. It's pretty pathetic, but kids always remember later, when they are going through the normal questioning of authority when they're older, who to go to when they're having it rough with their parents.

While I do not agree with the court ruling. Making an 8 year old walk a mile home was a bit over the top.

That's just the norm in one city area I recently lived in, and the weirdos didn't even have sidewalks for the kids. Kids actually have gotten hit by cars walking to and from school.
But it's wasn't punishment to walk. It was just called going to and from school. A lot of schools don't have busing if you live within two miles because that is considered a normal distance to walk. Sometimes they make it a mile and a half, or a mile for an elementary school, and sometimes even ask that vehicles not be used for picking up kids within that distance for the sake of congestion.

It all seems to depend on the mood of the government. LOL For real...you can find stories where it's wrong to pick the kid up, wrong to make them walk, find where it's common for a school to have kids that age walking that far, or where another school uses the city bus and gives tickets to students but if a parents from another school buys their kid a ticket to ride a city bus, THAT parent is evil, blah blah blah...it's pretty wild to see the confusion and how they change moment to moment depending on what they wish to claim/who they want to mess with.
