Poll: Most want inquiry into anti-terror tactics

    By Jill Lawrence, USA TODAY

WASHINGTON — Even as Americans struggle with two wars and an economy in tatters, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds majorities in favor of investigating some of the thorniest unfinished business from the Bush administration: Whether its tactics in the "war on terror" broke the law.

Close to two-thirds of those surveyed said there should be investigations into allegations that the Bush team used torture to interrogate terrorism suspects and its program of wiretapping U.S. citizens without getting warrants. Almost four in 10 favor criminal investigations and about a quarter want investigations without criminal charges. One-third said they want nothing to be done.

Even more people want action on alleged attempts by the Bush team to use the Justice Department for political purposes. Four in 10 favored a criminal probe, three in 10 an independent panel, and 25% neither.

He has already been cleared on wire taps No further investigation can produce anything beyond what the courts have already ruled on. And there is no law that would place the Bush admin in jeopardy with regards to "torture".

It's you Obama haters that need to put down the poison you are drinking and save what is left of your integrity.

'most' americans, and yet I haven't heard this from a single person. 'not too many' americans seems to be the real life case.

I wouldn't mention intergrity if I'd voted for a baby murderer Ken.

    Bush Did Nothing Wrong

Once again, Ken, must I tell you that Bush kept us safe for nearly 8 years. That is more than I can say about Obama. With the current actions put into play by your guy, it won't be long before we see major terrorist activity on our soil, with American blood flowing.

You know that Bush did what he had to do in a time of war. And let's NOT forget: we are at war! To release those cold blooded POW's from Gitmo is an act of insanity. We are at war, and war ain't a pretty thing. There are few laws in a war. And the opinions of the citizens whose country is in that war, should keep their mouths shut, and let our military leaders do what is needed in order to win the war.

Obama has made a BIG error, but, because he has NO military experience to draw upon, I can see why he's done what he's done. Still, that is no excuse for dropping the charges against the terrorist leader that killed 16 navy men and women when they bombed the USS Cole. That guy should be locked away in a pow camp until the war is over. No trial. No rights. No lawyer. Just imprisonment until his people wave the white flag of surrender.

God taught us how to fight enemies of His people. How many times did God not spare any life when it came to taking a city down? Did this make God wrong? I don't think so.....we need to fight the Jihadists the same way they fight us. They care not whom they kill, and we should have no reservations about who we kill either.

If that makes me a fanatic, so be it!. I'd rather be alive and free, than alive and living in fear. Most Americans only see war through the eyes of the media and Hollywood movies and television. The movie star always lives to live another day, and star in another film. Veterans live for the moment, and they either survive or die. This isn't Hollywood, and the sooner the liberals of this nation see this, the sooner we'll be allowed to fight this war free of inhibitions and the politically correct left and right.

Go ahead and investigate. I'd really like to see someone up on charges. But it won't happen.

    Why ?

Because a lot of democrats will go down with him.

    Sorry, libbies.

What makes this so funny is that while Obama ran on opposing what the Bush administration did in the war on terror...

Obama is publicly saying that he is putting an immediate stop to...

while privately saying that he is going to keep right on doing the same things.

He also said that he is not bound by his own executive orders or the executive orders of any other President.

Obama has mastered the art of marketing a public image while doing exactly the opposite and his groupies are buying it !

Why dont you let it go? Bush is no longer in office, and what he did is history. Don't you think it is time to look forward and hope things get better? What purpose does bringing Bush up serve?

You mean like the major terrorist attack that happened on our soil on 9/11? Hmm, wasn' that during the 8 years you said we were safe?

First, you are being completely sensationalist and you also also propogating falsehoods. Who has been released from Gitmo? There hasn't been a prisoner released from Gitmo this entire year. Now, there were many released in the years prior to this one. In fact, 18 of those released in previous years have been said to have direct involvement in terrorist activities and an additional 43 have "a plausible link with terrorist activities".

Where were you when those prisoners were released?! Why aren't you up in arms about them?

Oh, about Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, the terrorist that bombed the Cole. He was captured in November 2002. He wasn't charged with any thing until December 2008. Why weren't you mad that he was help for 6 years without being charged? Oh, but you are so upset that the charges were dropped now? They were dropped without prejudice (that means he can be recharged). He isn't being released, he is just in the exact same status that he was in for 6 years under the previous administration. Why aren't you complaining about that?

It makes you much worse thatn a fanatic. You are advocating killing every person in a city (women, children, babies). That makes you a murderer "pastor".

For the record, I don't like Obama, I can't think of a single thing he's done in office that I agree with. I think Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri should be found guilty and dealt with. But, I have a problem with people that spread lies and misinformation. I also have a problem with people who advocate the murder of non-combatant women and children. If you are serious in your statements that you are a sick individual and are no better than the terrorists we fight.

Thanks for the lecture on hate. I'll keep that in mind when you discuss anything regarding GWB.

Thanks once again for also reminding us that you cannot oppose any policy of Barack Obama. To do so means you harbor "hatred," and quite likely racism (you only have made accusations of the first one; but plenty level the second charge as well).

Thank you also for reminding us that if we oppose Obama's policies, then we do not have integrity. I guess the next thread will explain the plan of salvation, since anyone opposing Obama's policies is on the short road to Hades.

Finally, thank you for making sure we understand that there is no difference between any of us that oppose Obama's policies. The racist threat-maker, the conspiracy theorist, the conservative fiscal mind, and the person opposed to abortion policies enacted--we are all the same: Hatemongers...evil people...despicable humans.

Ken, you may ignore this...but your rhetoric is getting very, very mean-spirited and ugly. If your conscience is OK with that...well then, that's between you and God.

I love it. A supporter of tax cheats & liars lecturing us about integrity.

And most Americans are against illegal amnesty & the porkulus bill, but yer probably OK with ramming that down their throats.

Awful picky about your praise of Americans, lately.

    Give him a break guys!

If you had been as gullible, and realized, too late I might add, that the object of your (you insert the fitting emotion here) was nothing more than a big "0", an empty suit, a hologram if you will, would you not be trying to deflect all attention to something else????

In spite of all this rhetoric, a significant number of the American people think the Bush-Cheney administration should be investigated.
