I am serving as interim pastor at one of what must be thousands of "First Baptist" churches. A couple of weeks ago a visitor from Australia asked me whether a First Baptist was a denominational name! Then he went on to say that in his homeland all he ever heard about Baptists were that they were the kind of people who set fire to abortion clinics!

We're Northport Baptist Church - although it's located in East Northport (different zip from Northport). It was funny because this weekend we had the dedication of our new addition and we had a few of the local government leaders come and one of them said "I never understood why Northport Baptist Church was in East Northport." If he would read the insert in the bulletin of the history of the church, he would have found out that the first 2 of the 3 buildings the church occupied were in Northport - both in the incorporated village! :)

My church is named after a street and the neighborhood. It's on the main road, which carries the name of the community.

The church where we're still members is named after the town, the church we are attending is Immamuel Baptist.

I have noticed over the years that some traditions other than Baptist focus on theological names far more than we do. In our area, for example, in addition to all the "saints" churches, we have Abiding Presence Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, the Episcopal Church of Our Savior, and a good many Grace .... and Immanuel (spelled a variety of ways). To paraphrase "My Fair Lady", I wonder "Why can't the Baptists learn to speak ... theologically"?!

Of course it is possible to go too far. I recently read of a Catholic parish in Chicago named, "Sweetest Name of Mary." Even if I were Catholic and subscribed to Marian doctrine, I believe I would think "ick".

Park Meadows Baptist Church after the sub-division it's located next to.

We also have Independent Fundamental Church underneath the name.

Our chruch was originally First General Baptist of Rockford and over the years has merged with Second General Baptist, Fellowship Baptist and one more church I can't think of right now to become Rockford United General Baptist.

Our Church was founded in 1918 as Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. After the vision Paul had of a man in Macedonia calling Paul to come over. Acts 16:9-11 The name Missionary was chosen in respect to Paul's missionary out reach, an example that this Church continues to honor by sending out Missionaries to Haiti and the Philippines and into our local communities. Two Churches have been founded in the surrounding communities as a result of our missionary outreach. Several have been established in Haiti and the Philippines through the missionary ministry of Brother George Truelove (Haiti) and Brother Jody Crain (Philippines). The name is not from any Baptist association.

When a building was built the street that it was built by was unnamed. It was latter named Carraway Church Road by the County.

We're University Baptist Church since our building is located immediately across the road from Texas Christian University (TCU). Our church was founded nearly 80 years ago to minister to the university community and the neighborhoods that developed around the campus.

I don't know how they chose the name. It's call Lakeview Baptist, but it's not in a town called called Lakeview or on a street called Lakeview.

    "Aligned with a business"?
    Like a professional football stadium?

The Eagles use Lincoln Financial stadium.
Ya think they would sponsor a church too?
    Lincoln Financial Church?
Naaah they'd probably make you mention their name after every baptism.
We baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, under the sponsorship of ....

    My church: Crossing Community Church,
    Crossing – biblical name: “cross”
Crossing – place name: we're in Newtown, PA but we're close to historic Washington Crossing, PA

First Baptist of Lewisville here...of course, not to be confused with First Baptist of North Lewisville. Every town of 1200 people needs two first baptist churches, right?

Old Cutler Presbyterian, named after Old Cutler Road -- a road that parallels the bay from Coconut Grove to Homestead.
