National Spelling Bee

How much do you know about the National Spelling Bee in your local area.

I put this on our local New medial FB page:

According to the Post-Standard - 20 CNY students have won the right to compete in the final oral round of the PS spelling Bee.
This was on page 10 (of 20 pages).
So I guess teaching Sex Ed (the story on Pg 1) is more important than scholastic excellence.
My goodness even HS sports gets more coverage than these kids!
In that same edition - 2 full pages on HS sports. Sad - so sad
In case you are interested - the CNY finals will be held at the Everson Museum, on 5 March at 1015 am. It will be recorded and shown on TV Syracuse.com on 1 April.
With all the sub-channels for the local stations - (3,5,9,24,56,& 68) - not even one of them can broadcast the event live???

And we wonder whats wrong with our country.

Just to clarify - I have nothing against HS sports in itself- but cant we give the same priority to the spelling Bee, that we give to sports!

When I was a kid I competed in the Spelling Bee contest at my elementary school.

Here in Central New York, I'm guess there are about 200 elementary and Jr High schools.

For profit entities are going to produce content that will make them profits so that they can stay in business. That's why news channels and websites broadcast and post the most outrageous and divisive stories they can find - it's all about the number of eyes and clicks for them.
