    If the rest of the members do not pay their fair share, we need to pull out. We are supposed to be allies, not the protector of dead beats.

    I do see the advantage of staying in NATO - ie when we went to the Gulf Wars - we had plenty of troops who could get their quicker. However - since we are not occupiers - we actually have to have permission to fly in the air space.

    Only if you want the Baltic states not to fall.

    NATO is basically our country saying, you can't touch these countries. By making it a mutual defense pact, It prevents a country like Germany or England from saying no when we use their countries as staging to defend say Poland or Hungary.

    Even though we may be doing the heavy lifting, it's easier to do when we can lift from the country next door as oppose to having to airlift everything.

    And, so far Russia has been cowed into not invading the Baltic states.

    But if you don't care if the Baltics states fall? Then the reason for NATO starts to diminish.

    And Russia does want the Baltic states under its thumb.
