Do you believe that the story of Nebuchadnezzar in the OT is relevant to our understanding of contemporary rulers and countries, given that we live after the New Covenant?

In other words, do you believe that God could, in our day and age, use a strong and non-Christian ruler of another country to discipline a country that has fallen away from God?

Or does God work differently with nations after the New Covenant?

What would it say about individual salvation and judgement if God is still judging nations rather than individuals?

Weren't the Hebrews in the OT treated more collectively as the "chosen people"? Or does God continue to judge us both individually and collectively?

I don't know if he treats us like he did Israel, by sending to them into captivity under godless nations, but do think that he has given to us at times godless leaders, as a case of geting ehat we deserve!

I believe we are living under a different economy. We are a Nation in the midst of nations. God's People in Christ are citizens of heaven. All countries have fallen away from God. "Christian Nations" are a misnomer and should not be used. We are ambassadors in a foreign land. Christ says "we are not of this world"--Just as He was not of this World. God is showing His Longsuffering and mercy--so whatever happens in the NT age, it's to administer Grace--to build up His Kingdom of people who would love and worship Him.

Psalm 9:17 The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.
Proverbs 14:34 Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.

While it is true that we are in a different economy in the NC :

1 Peter 4:17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

Luke 8:17 For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.

For what it's worth. God used physical Israel, mostly unbelievers, to protect the remnant of believers among them. And to insure Jesus' birth in the right time and place. When the fullness of time came, the believers (Israel under Jesus) went global according to the promise made to Abraham. So now God uses all nations where Christendom extends, in the same way he used physical Israel in times of old. So the world with all the police and military, serve us (believers) the same way physical Israel served believers in the OT. But just as wicked Israel brought God's wrath so many times, our wicked world rulers incur God's wrath. When God saves the last Christian, the world ends along with all nations, in fire.

    Hope this helps.

What are some lessons we can learn from ol’ Neb?
    • God is in control.
    • God is all-powerful.
    • God humbles the proud.
    • God judges sin.
    • God uses other people (believing or unbelieving, willing or unwilling) to enact his justice.
    • God raises up those who turn towards him in repentance.
As Christians we’ve been promised hardship and trials (Christ suffered so to shall we).
God is not confined to work in a single way; he can work both individually and collectively with people to work out his will on earth.
The purpose of apocalyptic literature (as that in the book of Daniel) for Christians is:
    • Comfort that God in in control
    • Hope for the persecuted
    • Assurance of God’s victory
    • A call to worship
    • Call to purity
