Need Help

I was thinking last night about doctrine. I know that Christ is the only acceptable sacrifice for our sins, that it is faith alone that saves, repentance brings you to the cross, things like that. Are these things considered doctrine? If that be so then we have heard these things preached just never specifically taught.

Just wanted to clear that up in case anyone was wondering.

Doctrine=teaching. Sound doctrine=correct teaching.

You are correct that what you stated was doctrine; and I would even go so far as to say the primary doctrine. What you have to watch out for is stuff that is given as doctrine, but wasn't meant to be, like women wearing only dresses, for instance. I believe that dressing modestly is sound doctrine; I don't believe that placing dresses in the category of "salvational issue" is sound doctrine.

Stuff like the virgin birth, crucifixion, and resurrection is doctrine that must be firmly entrenched. Baptism not being a part of salvation; the Lord's Supper not imparting grace; things like that.

Whether smoking cigarettes is sinful; whether you believe the earth is only 6,000 yrs old (which I believe) or millions of years old; these are things which don't detract from the simple fact that Christ died for our sins. I've made the argument before that I consider Genesis 1 to be a salvational issue, because if that chapter isn't written exactly as it happened, then we have to start examining the scriptures even closer to determine what else wasn't exactly as it happened; but I welcome debate on the issue, because in the end, the people that disagree with me on Genesis 1 still agree with me that Christ is the way, the truth, and the life, and that no man comes unto the Father except through Him.

You all have been very helpful, and some have given some really good guide lines. I guess it is time for us to do our homework, and move on to the next chapter in our walk with the Lord, and see what adventures He has for us.

Walls, is it the entire church or just some of the people who do not live the fundamentals?

I think it is very important to go to church to worship our Lord God. We may not always agree with all the teachings of a specific church, but the agreement is that they are worshiping God and trying to find God's Will.

For me personally, I would find a church that is as close to my beliefs as possible, pray and let God led me.

I believe it is my responsibilty to follow God's Will. The church and pastor help with this, but it is still between me and God.

I don't think there is a perfect Church, although I believe that mine is close to it.

But I visited my church five years before I joined it. At that first visit, I did not like anything about it. Five years later, I found it was the perfect church for me. What had changed?
ME!! Same pastor, same staff, same people in the church.

We pray that God will lead you to a church where you can praise and serve Him.

If a group elevates the KJV onto a platform higher than a good translation, they teach false doctrine. KJVO is a good sign not to go to the church. Now, there are those who are OKJV. They use the KJV exclusively, but they don't make it more than it is.

God wrote the Bible in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. If preservation was true (the way KJVO define it), then where are the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek manuscripts?
