So it’s ‘shady’ & ‘reactionary’, got it. I think it’s hopeful, & past due if the SBC is to survive. They don’t represent me in their evolved state, that I can tell you. They are on the wrong road at the moment, merging with all the woke traffic on the road to nowhere.
One more thing........The shadiest thing I’ve seen lately is how they ‘handled’ the dismissal of Paige Patterson. It went down just the way they planned, with barely a whimper. Onward, isn’t that a fave of the left?

    Why is it shady?
Not making a membership role public is shady?

Folks who are said to be "woke" use identity politics to gain power so they can dictate their "take from others" sinful views. We had 70 years of misery in the Soviet Union. The misery in China says volumes about a "top down" regime. Near to us we have Cuba. You would have thought the young would know about scapegoating.

I remember the group founded by M. O. Owens and Bill Powell, the "Baptist Faith and Message Fellowship" back in the 70s, which helped start the SBC Conservative Resurgence. They also published a newsletter, but don't recall the title.

I probably posted in the wrong place, but good news, is good news, wherever it’s posted.

...but is a title so indistinguishing that many would (and did) pass over it.

Our posting rules say to "Use descriptive subject lines".
    That is the reason.

From the information about the Baptist Faith and Message Fellowship Collection at Southern Baptist Historical Library and Archives:

"The Baptist Faith and Message Fellowship organized in 1973 as a conservative voice concerned about liberalism within the Southern Baptist Convention. The Fellowship through the leadership of Bill Powell and the pages of the Southern Baptist Journal, took an aggressive path from the first publication. Powell attacked “liberal” professors and through letter and print, challenged leaders to affirm the Fellowship’s conservative positions. The Southern Baptist Journal, a monthly tabloid, became the voice for the organization and continued a forceful assault on college and seminary professors and convention leaders. The Fellowship played a significant role in the controversy that erupted in the Southern Baptist Convention in 1979. The Fellowship continued through the late 1980’s and ceased to exist when conservatives gained lasting control of the Southern Baptist Convention. William (Bill) Powell and M.O. Owens served as significant leaders in the organization."

The SBC & RCC should have a race to the bottom.

That's what it was — The Southern Baptist Journal. Thanks for finding the proper data!

    J. Frank Norris had it right in relation to the SBC so long ago.

There was a conservative renewal but now the social justice warriors want to bend everyone to their leftist agenda. I have packed my bags and decided on another denomination in case the sjws win again at the annual meeting.

I hear you, but just note that, contrary to popular opinion, "Southern Baptist" is not a denomination, just a convention.

He was the hardest critic of the liberalism (back then!) of the SBC until he was excluded in 1924.
