New Country Within US Borders?

    What, if anything, should the US do? Will we send diplomats to pay the leaders of this country money and promises of financial aid to back down? Will we send police or troops to arrest/capture them? Should we try to wait it out and see if it goes away on its own?

    I hope they enjoy the prospects of living without US trade, health care, Social Security, and welfare. My guess is (and this is only a guess) that if the feds prohibited US citizens from frequenting their casinos, they would come begging to recant within about 6-8 months.

    The US wanted independence from England. To be consident, we should do the same for the Indinians.

    I guess they can renounce their citizenship if they want to, but they still live on US soil. But now they could illegal aliens.

    Ship em off to Mexico...
    Let em stay awhile, and they will beg to become US citizens again.

    Other than that, if they renounced the treaties, then we are free to treat them the way we did prior to the treaties...

    Those who do not study history are bound to repeat it.

    Obviously Russel Means knows about when the
    National Guard of South Carolina fired cannons at
    Fort McHenry in Charleston Harbor. South Carolina
    had its sons decimated twice, Charleston Harbor
    burned, the slaves taken, the crops burned.

    Interesting names for the S. Carolina thing:

    1. The War of the Rebellion 1861-1872
    2. The War of the Resurrection 1872-1892
    3. War Between the States 1892-1940
    4. Civil War 1941-2007

    ( I used to file the official USGovernment
    documents stored at OU {Universitly of Oklahoma}
    and these are the official USGovernment
    titles used for that war and the approximate years
    they were used /for WW2 the USGovernment
    was looking for some southern cooperation so
    they picked a less offensive name. Each
    change was to a less offensive name. This information
    is off the top of my head. Any error is cause my
    memory is addled from staying up way to late posting
    on Bulletin Board (bb) / )

    So, what is Russel Means' plan?

    In about 1997 on the Apache Reservation
    in Oklahoma, the Apache made an agreement with
    organized crime to run an 'Apache Casino'
    for some small percentage of the gross: maybe
    2 or 3. When the OSBI (Oklahoma State Bureau
    of Investigation -- you know, like the Federal: FBI,
    only for Oklahoma) & Federal agencies arrested
    the operators & Dealers there were two Nguyns,
    one Pham, and One Ho.

    I think Means is trying to pressure the Federal
    people for Casinos. The individual states
    are supposed to regulate Indian Nation gambling.
    But he owns a Senator or four and wants
    lot more than he aught to get :(

    If the US airport has 'international' in it's name -
    there is part of the US border there.
    Building higher walls at International Airports
    does not make sense - neither does 'make
    higher walls' work at the International Airport
    border of the US.

    What y'all are forgeting is Means and company are not de facto or de jure leaders of the Lakota tribe. They are unelected activists.

    They can huff, puff and have photo ops all they want. The Lakota tribe will follow them. If Hugo Chavez decides to send them some foreign aid and arms that is another matter.

    I propose the Constitution be dissolved and we form 50 sovereign nations under a confederation. Ask the Queen to take us back into their confederation of sovereign nations.
