I'm not sure if I understand what the big deal is.

There are people, christians included, who lie like dogs on their income taxes. Tons of people do it and they never blink an eye.

Perhaps it's those people that we should be angry at?

My church sends a statement every quarter and it tells what you gave and if you gave a designated item, it states that, too. And you dont' have to write a check. Just put the cash in the Sunday School envelope and write your name and if it is designated for anything on it. I thought all churches did that. Maybe I am just naive.

We have the same system as scarlett - we get 1/4ly reports and a year end report. our administrative pastor was an accountant in his former life and he's a stickler about the finances. we also have an audir yearly by an outside accounting firm to make sure all is kosher.

i have no problem giving the irs receipts since we've been doing this all along.

I don't see what the problem is, we have always had tax reciepts from church. Should a person just be able to say I gave away x amount of dollars and the goverment take their word for it. I don't think so.

Good point, Donna. There are plenty of people on this board who don't take the government's word for anything. They investigate things for themselves as is their privilege and as sometimes common sense dictates.

My Wife and I always write a check and put it in the donation plate, and every church I have ever gone to gives a printed sheet with our donation totals for the year.

It's a government conspiracy against Christians. Everyone knows that Muslims aren't required by the IRS to have a receipt for their donations to al-Qaida. Don't you know that no Christian would ever lie?:tonofbricks:

So, north of Houston is 50%...south of Houston is 20%. Does that mean even with Houston is free?

I like the way you think.

It's $12,000 now. It is only a tax break to the donner if the recipient is a certified charity; however, it does reduce the potential estate tax which is assessed if the estate is over $1,500,000.00.

oh good grief, it's not a conspiracy, they aren't saying money given to church can not be used on your taxes, or you can't give money to the church. they want people to prove their deductions, thats reasonable.
