It does not matter which candidates or which party he favors, he went too far.

So my question is, why are they fearful of retaliation? Was there an open threat? Was there a private threat? What kind of retaliation could occur in their church in the first place.

“He really screwed up. I think we have to advocate and let’s get a real preacher back in that church. It's a good church. It's just a bad preacher now,” a male parishioner said.

Just because the preacher may or may not have handled this wrong does not determine that he is a bad preacher. Such exaggerated claims make me suspicious that there is another agenda going on here.

There was not doctrine statement, except for Water Baptism. However, they have an interesting statement on infant baptism.
